Coronavirus: Bollywood singer among 4 cases reported in Lucknow, total count at 23 in UP

    Four fresh cases of deadly coronavirus infection were confirmed in Lucknow today. Famous Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor is among those who tested positive for COVID-19, according to media reports. At present, there are nine coronavirus patients in the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The new patients were admitted to King George's Medical University.

    Kanika Kapoor, the renowned voice in Bollywood, had recently returned from London, according to a report in IANS. “My family and I are in complete quarantine now and following medical advice on how to move forward. Contact mapping of people I have been in touch with is underway as well," wrote the singer on Instagram today.

    With the new patients today, the total number of coronavirus cases rose to over 20 in Uttar Pradesh. Of these, eight cases were reported from Agra, two cases from Ghaziabad, four cases from Noida, nine cases from Lucknow and one case from Lakhimpur-Kheri.

    Two fresh cases were diagnosed from Lucknow on Wednesday. One is form Lucknow who had recently visited London. The other is a resident of Lakhimpur district and had returned from Turkey.

    As the number of cases of surges in the state, Yogi Adityanath government ordered to close educational institutions, cinema halls, malls, gym and swimming pools in Uttar Pradesh till April 2. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath urged people to adopt social distancing as a precautionary measure to prevent the coronavirus spread.

    "I appeal to all to adopt social distancing and avoid going to crowded places to check spread of corona," the CM said.

    The private firms in the state were asked to extend remote working facilities to its employees. To avoid large gatherings, Noida police imposed Section 144 of CrPC in the city. In the wake of coronavirus scare, Adityanath government decided that all students up to class 8 would be promoted to the next class without examinations.

    The Lucknow district administration today ordered closure of all bars, cafes or lounges, hair salons and beauty parlours with immediate effect.

    "All bars, cafes/lounges, hair salons and beauty parlours should be closed with immediate effect till March 31 or till further orders," District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash said.

    Uttar Pradesh government is planning to get an approval from the Indian Council of Medical Research's (ICMR) for four institutes in the state to conduct novel coronavirus tests, state Health Minister Jai Pratap Singh said.
