Coronavirus update: India reports 472 new Covid-19 cases in one day

  • The number of cases in the country witnessed a surge in the last week as hundreds tested positive after attending a religious gathering held by the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi's Nizamuddin last month
  • In the last 12 hours, the country witnessed a spike of 302 coronavirus cases

NEW DELHI : As the number of coronavirus cases jumped to 3,374 in India today, less than 500 new cases were reported during the last 24 hours. In its latest data, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that after taking into account 266 cured patients, 77 deaths and a migrated patient, the total number of active cases in India is now 3030.

The Tablighi Jamaat religious congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin has emerged as a hotspot for COVID-19 after several positive cases from across India were linked to the gathering including deaths in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana. Almost one-third of all COVID-19 positive cases in India have been linked to Tablighi Jamaat.

Delhi has 445 confirmed cases and 6 deaths while Maharashtra 490 cases out of which 24 patients have passed away. Tamil Nadu has 485 cases. Uttar Pradesh has 227 Covid-19 cases, Telangana 269 cases and Kerala 306.

In Punjab, another six people, all Tablighi Jamaat attendees, tested positive for corona today. The total number of such patients in the state is now 57.

Jaipur reported another death today after an 82-year-old coronavirus positive man died at the state-run SMS Hospital. Rajasthan reported five new corona cases. The virus has so far claimed five lives in the state.
