NEW DELHI : The number of coronavirus positive cases in India has increased to 236 after 63 fresh cases were reported during the day, the Union Health Ministry said today. The list includes 32 foreigners and four dead patients.

So far, 52 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in Maharashtra, which is the highest in any state of the country. In view of this, the Maharashtra government has announced lockdown in Nagpur, Mumbai and Pune.

Hyderabad too reported another COVID-19 positive case taking the total number of coronavirus cases to 17 in Telangana. The Hyderabad patient had a travel history to London.

Kerala has reported 28 cases, Uttar Pradesh 23, West Bengal 2, Ladakh 10, Delhi 17 and Andhra Pradesh 3.

Across states, 22 patients have so far recovered from the virus and have been discharged from hospital.

Joint Secretary of the Health Ministry Luv Aggarwal said there was no shortage of essential commodities to fight coronavirus.

The Italian man who died in Jaipur on Friday will not be counted among those dead in India due to coronavirus, he said and maintained that the death toll in the country is four.

Earlier in the day, the government refuted rumours about a "complete lockdown" of the country amid COVID-19 fears.

The Health Ministry has issued an advisory on measures to enforce social distancing and suggesting shut down of all educational institutions, gymnasiums, museums, cultural and social centres, swimming pools and theatres till March 31.

The government has also tightened the lockdown on the spread of coronavirus cases with travel restrictions prohibiting entry of all passengers from the European Union, European Free Trade Association, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Philippines and Afghanistan.

The centre has also banned the operations of international commercial passenger flights in India from March 22 to March 29.
