Coronavirus update: One more person tests positive in Delhi-NCR

One employee of a private firm in Noida has tested positive for coronavirus

    A Delhi resident working in Uttar Pradesh's Noida private firm was diagnosed with coronavirus infection in the national capital region today. The patient had a history of travelling to France and China, said Anurag Bhargav, chief medical officer.

    "One employee of a private firm in Noida has tested positive for coronavirus. He has travel history to France and China," Anurag Bhargav, chief medical officer told.

    The person was quarantined, said Bhargav. All the employees of the company were under isolation. A total of 707 people worked in that Noida factory.

    The factory was shut after the employee tested positive for the COVID-19 today. Health officials ensured the entire factory was sanitised, Bhargav added.

    With the new patient, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country crossed 80. At present, there are eight cases of COVID-19 infection in Delhi.

    In the wake of coronavirus scare, the Delhi government declared the COVID-19 an epidemic in the national capital. Schools, colleges and cinema halls in Delhi were ordered shut until 31 March, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Thursday.

    Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi (IIT-Delhi) also suspended all classes, exams and public gatherings with immediate effect till end March.

    The Delhi government also decided to suspend all the matches of this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) in the national capital amid coronoavirus outbreak.

    The Centre suspended visas of all foreign nationals coming to the country from Friday till 15 April. The Union Health Ministry also urged people to refrain from travelling to China, Italy, Iran, Republic of Korea, Japan, France, Spain and Germany. The citizens were also advised to avoid non-essential travel abroad.

    Over 1,30,000 cases of the novel coronavirus have been recorded in 116 countries and territories. Originated from China's Wuhan city in Hubei province, the deadly infection killed nearly 5,000 globally.
