Covid-19: India reports 16,464 fresh cases, 24 deaths in a day

NEW DELHI: India added 16,464 fresh coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, pushing up the active caseload to 1,43,989, and the total case tally till date to 4,40,36,27, according to data released by the Union health ministry on Monday.
Death toll climbed to 5,26,396 with 24 new fatalities, as per the data.
States reporting the most active covid are: Andhra Pradesh (2,304), Assam (5,406), Bihar (1,477), Chhattisgarh (3,457), Delhi (4,509), Gujarat (6,537), Haryana (3,304), Himachal Pradesh (5,554), Jammu & Kashmir (4,859), Jharkhand (1,117), Karnataka (11,105), Kerala (14,833), Maharashtra (13,003) , Odisha (6,661), Punjab (9078), Tamil Nadu (12,671), Telangana (5,543), Uttar Pradesh (3,101) and West Bengal (15,314).
The central government had reviewed covid-19 situation in 115 districts of nine states showing a surge in covid cases and positivity rate, and flagged concerns regarding low levels of testing and vaccination. It had directed states and union territories to report and monitor district-wise SARI and ILI cases on a daily basis and step-up vaccination.

India has so far administered more than 204.34 crore vaccine doses under the nationwide vaccination drive, which includes 93.29 crore second dose and 9.06 crore precautionary doses. About 8,34,167 doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
Around 16,112 people recovered from covid in the last 24 hours, with total recoveries at 4,33,65,890 till date.
The country has conducted over 87.54 crore covid tests till date, with 2,73,888 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
