Covid: Telangana CM to decide on lockdown extension after cabinet meet on 30 May

The state is under lockdown till May 30 in order to tackle the second wave of COVID-19

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will hold a crucial meeting with his cabinet ministers on 30 May over various issues including farming, crops, crop procurement, availability of seeds, fertilisers, COVID cases in the state, and extension of the ongoing lockdown in the state among others.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has decided to hold the State Cabinet meeting on May 30 (Sunday) at 2 PM," an official press release said here on Wednesday. In the meeting, the Cabinet would discuss about agriculture - crops in the State, the ongoing paddy procurement process, availability of seeds and fertilisers, curbing the supply of spurious seeds - coronavirus, lockdown and other subjects, the release said.

The state is currently under lockdown till 30 May to stop the surge in Covid-19 cases in the state.

The state has allowed works related to agriculture produce, allied sectors, works undertaken with the agriculture machines, running of rice mills, transport of the paddy and rice, supplying paddy to FCI, fertiliser and seeds shops and manufacturing companies and other agri-based sectors are exempted from the lockdown.

Employees of pharmaceutical companies, medical equipment manufacturers, pharma distributors and pharmacies, all types of medical and health services, government and private hospitals, would be given special passes and are allowed with their vehicles.

Meanwhile, Telangana on Tuesday reported 3,821 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the tally to over 5.60 lakh while the toll stood at 3,169 with 23 casualties, a government bulletin said.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 537, followed by Khammam (245) and Rangareddy (226), the bulletin said.

The state has38,706 active cases and over 81 thousand samples were tested.

The total number of cumulative cases in the state stood at5,60,141 while with4,298being cured, the total recoveries were at5,18,266.

Cumulatively, over 1.46 crore samples have been tested.

The samples tested per million population was over 3.93 lakh, the bulletin said.

The case fatality rate in the state was 0.56 per cent, while it was 1.1 per cent at the national level.

The recovery rate in Telangana was 92.52 per cent, while it was 89.2 per cent in the country.

Meanwhile, the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination for people above 45 years of age resumed on Tuesday across Telangana, an official release said.

On May 16, the government said it was suspending the second dose inoculation drive for persons above 45 years of age citing inadequate stock of Covaxin vaccine and non- receipt of fresh stocks from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

It has already suspended the vaccination of the first dose and did not even start administering people between 18 and 44 due to scant stocks.

Telangana Public Health Director G Srinivasa Rao in an official memo said all designated private vaccination centres (PCVC) in the State are permitted to carry out COVID-19 vaccination in the hospitals, as well as workplaces (on requests made by Institutions/companies/gated communities, etc) by registering on CoWin portal and by following the vaccination guidelines
