Biparjoy Cyclone News Live: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ located over the east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea is likely to shift northwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next few hours.
Harsh weather and sea conditions due to the storm can take the wind speed to 135-145 kmph gusting to 160 kmph in the next three-four days. The weather office has issued a warning for fishermen not to venture into the sea.
It has also issued a wind warning for the next five days for states southwestern states.

30,000 people from coastal districts shifted to temporary shelters; Army plans relief measures with NDRF
Authorities on Tuesday shifted 30,000 people from coastal areas to temporary shelters two days before powerful cyclone Biparjoy's expected landfall near Jakhau port in Gujarat's Kutch district.
An official said several NDRF and SDRF teams are on standby. Simultaneously, Army authorities have jointly planned relief operations with civil administration and National Disaster Response Force.
The Army has kept flood relief columns ready at strategic locations.
In a virtual meeting to take stock of the cyclone preparedness, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked the Gujarat government to make arrangements for moving people living in sensitive places to safer areas and ensure all necessary services, such as electricity, telecommunication, health and drinking water.

Union power minister R K Singh on Tuesday reviewed preparation for power supply and quick restoration arrangements for coastal areas in Gujarat and Rajasthan against the backdrop of Cyclone ‘Biparjoy.

Cyclone Biparjoy won't impact monsoon further: IMD
Cyclone Biparjoy is now completely detached from the monsoonal flow and will not adversely impact the advance of the rain-bearing system or its performance, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference here, IMD chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the cyclone, however, helped the monsoon advance over southern parts of the peninsula by increasing the cross-equatorial flow over the Arabian Sea.
"Now, it is completely detached from the monsoonal flow. We do not expect any largescale impact either on the monsoon advance or its performance," he said.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has evacuated a 50-member crew of a jackup rig in Gujarat as a preventive measure ahead of the expected landfall of severe Cyclone Biparjoy, an official statement said on Tuesday.
"In a swift and well-coordinated move, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) evacuated 50 lives on June 13 at Okha, Gujarat as a preventive measure," the statement issued by the Defence Ministry said.
The Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) had requested the ICG for evacuation of 50 crew from jackup rig 'KEY SINGAPORE/01' located 25 nm west of Okha on June 12, it said.
Action plan being put in place to tackle medical, health emergencies: Union Minister Mandaviya
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced on Tuesday that a comprehensive plan is being formulated to address medical and health emergencies. Mandaviya made this statement after evaluating the preparatory measures being implemented by the Central government and the Gujarat administration in response to Cyclone 'Biparjoy.' He discussed these measures with Rushikesh Ganeshbhai Patel, the Health Minister of Gujarat, during a meeting in Bhuj, Gujarat.
According to a statement, the Union Minister has assured the State of the Centre's support. Mandaviya emphasized that the cyclone situation is being closely monitored in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), regional offices, and respective State authorities. Central medical quick response teams have been placed on standby for immediate deployment if required.
Mandaviya further mentioned that shelter homes are being established with provisions for food supplies and meals.
How government is preparing for Cyclone Biparjoy
1. “We have shifted 20,580 people from Gujarat’s coastal districts and moved them to relief camps where they will be provided with food, drinking water, and other essential material," said CC Patel, director of relief in the Gujarat state government.
2. The administration has declared holidays in schools while the fishing operations in the area are also suspended.
3. Gujarat has deployed 21 teams of the National Disaster Response Force and 13 teams of the State Disaster Response Force for rescue operations.
4. The administration has evacuated people from the low-lying areas (up to 5 KM from the coast) and is ready to evacuate more if the need arises.

Where Cyclone Biparjoy will make landfall?
Cyclone Biparjoy will make landfall between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan. The severe cyclonic storm will have the winds going up to the speed of 125-135 kmph, gusting to 150 kmph, the IMD said.
“On June 15, wind speed in Dwarka, Jamnagar, Kutch, and Morbi districts of Gujarat will be around 125-135 kmph and gusting to 150 kmph, it could have extensive damaging potential," Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, director general of the IMD said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
Landfall refers to the occurrence when the center of a cyclone, known as the eye, transitions from being over water to moving onto land. It is important to note that landfall does not necessarily indicate that the cyclone has completely reached or "hit" the land.
Damages expected from Cyclone 'Biparjoy'
Apart from the warning from the IMD chief, weather.com has reported that there will be extensive damage to Kutcha houses and some damage to Pucca houses. Moreover, the residents in the area must also be alert from the flying objects. The power and communication poles are expected to be uprooted amid high-speed winds.
The farmers in the area must also brace for the damage to crops and plantations, orchards, falling of trees, etc.

According to officials, the North Western Railway (NWR) has made the decision to cancel certain train services due to the expected arrival of the cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' in southwest Rajasthan on June 16. In a statement, the NWR emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety and security in light of the cyclonic storm Biparjoy in the Bay of Bengal.

ICG evacuates 50 personnel from oil rig off Gujarat coast
In view of the approaching 'very severe' cyclonic storm Biparjoy, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Tuesday evacuated 50 personnel from Oil Rig 'Key Singapore' informed ICG.
"In a nerve-racking mission, @IndiaCoastGuard Ship Shoor & ALH Mk-III (CG 858) augmented for evacuation of 50 personnel from Jack up rig "Key Singapore" off #Okha, #Gujarat. All 50 crew (26 crew on 12th Jun and 24 crew today) evacuated safely," the ICG tweeted from its official Twitter handle.
The Key Singapore oil rig is 40 kilometres seaward from Dwarka in seven sorties of overnight operation. The operation was done with the help of Ship Shoor and Advanced Light Helicopter Mark III helicopter. The helicopter and the ship braved rough sea conditions and inclement weather and conducted the operation successfully.

Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’: Western Railway short-terminates 56 trains heading to coastal Gujarat
As powerful cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ moves closer to the Gujarat coast, the Western Railway has short-terminated more than 50 trains heading to coastal areas of the state and is considering cancellation of several trains over the next three days, a release said.
The WR is taking various measures including setting up disaster management rooms, help desks, and keeping relief trains ready, the release said on Monday.
The wind speed is being monitored at five locations in Bhavnagar division, at eight sites in Rajkot and at three spots in Ahmedabad division on an hourly basis and station masters have been instructed to regulate or stop trains when the wind velocity exceeds 50 kmph, as per the release.

Mumbai: Bodies of two of four boys feared drowned in sea found
Rescuers have found the bodies of two of the four boys who went missing in the sea off Mumbai’s Juhu Koliwada, an official said on Tuesday.
According to a civic official, the bodies of 16-year-old Dharmesh Valji Faujiya and 15-year-old Shubham Yogesh Bhogniya have been recovered.
The two were part of a group of five friends, aged between 12 and 16 years, who ventured into the sea, about half a kilometre from the shore, around 5.30 pm on Monday but could not return.

Reliance suspends diesel exports from Sikka due to storm
Reliance Industries has reportedly suspended exports of diesel and other oil products from India's Sikka port because of the approaching cyclone. A Reuters report quoting traders confirmed the update.
Reliance incidentally operates the world's largest refining complex in Jamnagar.
