New Delhi: Indian Meteorological Department has advised fishermen, ships and trawlers to not venture into central Bay of Bengal and north Andaman Sea till Sunday given that cyclone Mocha is expected to make landfall. Those already out at sea have been asked to return to the coast.
Mocha, categorised as a very severe cyclonic storm, is likely to intensify further and make landfall between Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh and Myanmar around noon on Sunday, with maximum sustained wind speed of 150-160 kmph gusting to 175 kmph, the IMD said.
The name Mocha, pronounced Mokha, was proposed by Yemen, after the Red Sea port city Mokha, which introduced coffee to the world 500 years ago.
Under the influence of the cyclone, most places in Tripura and Mizoram are likely to get heavy rainfall over the weekend. Nagaland, Manipur and south Assam are expected to receive heavy showers at many places on Sunday.
IMD expects heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya between Sunday and Tuesday, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from Friday to Tuesday.
Heat wave conditions are likely on Friday in Gujarat and western parts of Rajasthan and over western regions of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha till Sunday. Bihar, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal are expected to experience heat wave on Monday and Tuesday, while coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are forecast to witness similar weather conditions from Sunday to Tuesday, the weather bureau said.
