If you are travelling on Independence Day weekend, be prepared to reach the airport three hours in advance. The Delhi airport operator on Wednesday urged the domestic flyers to reach at least three hours prior the departure due to enhanced security measure. International flyers are requested to reach at least four hours in advance, the airport operator, Delhi International Airport Ltd, posted on Twitter.

Starting from August 10, the entry to the meet and greet area in any airport will be barred for 10 days, said the Civil Aviation Ministry on Wednesday.

India's biggest airline IndiGo in a Twitter post said: "Due to enhanced security measures owing to Independence Day, passengers are advised to report at least 3 hrs prior departure to avoid any hassle."

On an usual day, passengers have to reach airport at least an hour before their domestic flights and two hours prior to their international departure.

Earlier, Civil Aviation Ministry issued security protocols to prevent any untoward incidents after Centre scrapped Article 370 which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Security will be enhanced in and outside at all aviation installations and cargo terminals in all the airports across the country. There will be strict access control to regulate entry to airport terminal buildings, all operational areas and other airport facilities.

All approaching vehicles will be subject to an intensive random security check at least one kilometer away from all the airports in the country.

Besides the mandatory vehicle and passenger checks, there will be a compulsory secondary ladder point checking for all flights at all airports.
