Karwa Chauth is being celebrated across the country on Friday, 10 October. Hindu women celebrate Karwa Chauth by fasting all day and praying for their partners' long life, health, and prosperity. On this day, women wear vibrant traditional attire like sarees, lehengas, or salwar suits in red, pink, and maroon. This festival honours the love shared between a husband and wife, and women break their fast only after they sight the moon.
Karwa Chauth is also called Karak Chaturthi. 'Karwa' or 'Karak' refers to the clay pot used to offer water, called Argha, to the moon. The Karwa holds great importance during the Puja and is also presented as a Dan to the Brahmin.
This year, the Chaturthi tithi started on Thursday, October 9 at 10:54 PM and will end at 7:38 PM on October 10, according to Drik Panchang. The Karwa Chauth puja muhurat will last for 1 hour and 14 minutes, beginning at 5:57 PM and ending at 7:11 PM on October 10.
Karwa Chauth upavasa is of 14 hours 2 minutes duration which commenced at 6:21 AM on October 10 and will conclude at 8:23 PM.
Meanwhile, in Maharashtra and other regions, people observe the fast of Vakratunda Sankashti Chaturthi on Karwa Chauth. On this day, devotees worship Lord Ganesha in his Vakratunda form. Additionally, the Ahoi Ashtami Vrat is observed four days after Karwa Chauth, focusing on the well-being of sons.
