
The Delhi Government has declared 25 November 2025 as a holiday to commemorate the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said in a post on social media.
“The Delhi Government has decided to declare 25 November 2025 as Holiday to commemorate the sacred occasion of the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. May Guru Sahib’s timeless message of courage, compassion, and freedom of faith continue to guide and inspire us in our collective journey ahead,” CM Rekha Gupta's X post read.
Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom day, also referred to as Shaheedi Diwas, is observed to commemorate the execution of the ninth Sikh Guru by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1675. On this day, people honour Guru Teg Bahadur's sacrifice to defend religious freedom against forced conversions.
Earlier, a X post by CM Gupta declared that 25 November would be observed as a “public holiday” to mark Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom day. In a later post, the CM announced that the aforementioned day would be a “holiday”.
The Uttar Pradesh government has revised the gazetted holiday announced on account of Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom day for the year 2025.
As per multiple reports – the holiday – which was scheduled for November 24, has been rescheduled to November 25, 2025.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said the Haryana government, in collaboration with the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, is commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru at Jyotisar to take his message and heritage to the masses.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the event on 25 November, mentioned a report by news wire PTI.
Issuing instructions to officials, Saini said that as part of the 350th ‘Shaheedi Diwas’ commemorations of Guru Tegh Bahadur, four holy nagar kirtan yatras were being organised across the state – which would pass through all districts of Haryana. These yatras will conclude in Kurukshetra on 24 November.
To mark the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Indian Railways said it will operate two special train services for devotees – one from Patna Sahib and another from Old Delhi – starting today, Saturday, 22 November.
A 22-coach special train will depart from Patna on 23 November at 06:40 am, reaching Sri Anandpur Sahib at 04:15 am on 24 November. Another special train is the daily AC service which will depart from Old Delhi at 7 am on November 22, 23, 24, and 25, reaching Sri Anandpur Sahib at 1.45 pm the same day, reported ANI, citing a press note from the ministry.
