Delhi woke up to a cloudy morning with light rainfall in parts of the city on Tuesday. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the capital city will likely witness more thunderstorms and showers later in the day.
The minimum temperature is also likely to rise in the national capital. The city is expected to see temperatures ranging from a minimum of 12°C to a maximum of 21°C. On Monday, temperatures varied between 10.2°C and 24.4°C, with humidity recorded at 49%.
The air quality in Delhi, however, remained in the “poor” category, with a recorded Air Quality Index (AQI) of 243.
According to the IMD's rain forecast, only some parts of Delhi are likely to experience light rainfall today. Here are the areas expected to get rain:
Delhi weather is likely to take a U-turn from its sunny mornings, bringing back colder conditions.
This week, the national capital is slated to experience a mix of rain and foggy conditions.
According to IMD's bulletin, fog will dominate the forecast for Delhi from February 5 onward. Moderate fog is predicted for February 5, followed by shallow fog on February 6-7. Delhi will see temperatures in the range of 9°C to 25°C in the coming days.
The trend is expected to continue on February 8 and 9, with dense fog anticipated and temperatures ranging from 9°C to 25°C.
This year, Delhi experienced its warmest January since 2019, with an average maximum temperature of 21.1°C, slightly above the long-term average of 20.1°C. IMD data has indicated higher-than-usual nighttime temperatures.
Meteorologists have attributed this warmth to the lack of strong western disturbances, which typically bring rain and cooler conditions.
"This month, while western disturbances did pass through north India, most of them were feeble and did not result in substantial snowfall or rainfall," weather expert Mahesh Palawat told news agency PTI.
