Diljit Dosanjh has unveiled his striking new avatar for the highly anticipated film, Chamkila. The renowned singer-actor has left his fans pleasantly astonished with his first look, which was revealed in a brief teaser released by Netflix on May 30 morning. In the glimpse, Dosanjh appears without his turban, sporting what seems to be a wig, although the actor himself has refrained from confirming this aspect.
“Jo naam saalon se aapke dil aur dimaag pe chaaya hai woh ab aapke saamne aaya hai (Here is presenting the one who has ruled over your head and heart for years)," posted Netflix while sharing the teaser.
Diljit is set to portray the iconic Amar Singh Chamkila, Punjab's legendary record-breaking musician, in this Imtiaz Ali-directed project. Joining him on this cinematic journey is the talented Parineeti Chopra, who will essay the role of Amarjot Kaur, Amar Singh Chamkila's partner.

Diljit Dosanjh’s no-turban has received backlash from some social media users. “paaji pag kaha gayi twaadi, tussi hi to kahe to hun Mai koi role pag bina nahi Karanga? Pher? (Where is your turban, brother? It was you who once said that you’d not do any character without a turban. Then?", said one user.
Some users had a problem with AR Rahman being the music director of the movie. They believe someone from the Punjabi movie industry should have worked for the music of the movie. “Typical bollywood behavior, making a musical film on Punjab with Mumbai music genre, “baj baja baja" like punjab doesn’t have its own music. What is this cringe," wrote one user.

This is, however, not the first time Diljit Dosanjh flaunts a no-turban look. In Jogi, a 2022 Hindi period drama directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Dosanjh had a no-turban look in some parts of the movie. Amid the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the character decides to do away with his turban and cut his hair in order to hide his identity and save fellow Sikh victims.

Amar Singh Chamkila, along with his wife, was shot dead allegedly by Sikh extremists. However, no arrests were made for the assassination of Chamkila, whose real name was Dhanni Ram.
