Happy Dussehra 2023! Vijayadashami or the 10th day marks the end of the nine-day Navratri festival. According to the Hindu calendar, Dussehra is observed as the victory of Lord Ram over the evil king Ravana.
Today, people across the country burn huge effigies of demon king Ravana to signify the victory of good over evil. This year, Dussehra is celebrated on October 24, Tuesday.
Dasara is also known as Vijayadashami which marks the end of the five-day festivities of Durga Puja. It is believed that Vijayadashami is a day to celebrate the triumph of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. People immerse the idols of goddess Durga, Saraswati, Laxmi, Kartik, and Ganesg in water bodies.

As per the Hindu calendar, the auspicious time for the burning Ravana effigies will begin at 5.22 pm on October 24, Tuesday. Ravan Dahan can take place till 6.59 pm today.
Meanwhile, security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order in the national capital amid the festive fervor. Around 1,000 police personnel and additional force have been deployed in Delhi as Ravan Dahan is all set to take place today.
Firecrackers are banned, with this police team seized more than 100 kg of firecrackers yesterday. The whole city has been sensitized with regard to security during Dussehra celebrations," police said.
The festival also starts the preparations for Diwali, the important festival of lights, which is celebrated twenty days after Vijayadashami.
