Earthquake today: An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on the Richter scale occurred 30km southeast of Kishtwar in Jammu & Kashmir.

Earthquake tremors felt in Delhi and parts of north India on June 13 afternoon, ANI reported. An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on the Richter scale occurred 30km southeast of Kishtwar in Jammu & Kashmir, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.

The earthquake occurred at 1:33 pm today.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:5.4, Occurred on 13-06-2023, 13:33:42 IST, Lat: 33.15 & Long: 75.82, Depth: 6 Km ,Location: Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, India," tweeted NCS.

The quake was at a depth of 60 km and the epicentre of the quake was at a distance of 99 km north of Pathankot in northern India, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

"The earthquake scared school children. People in shops rushed out. It was scary. This was more intense than the tremors last week," A local from Srinagar told ANI.

On June 9, the Union Territory of Ladakh experienced a 3.9 magnitude earthquake, as reported by the NCS. The seismic event took place at 10:23:57 IST, with the epicenter located at Lat: 35.64 and Long: 76.62. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers in the region of Laddakh, India.

Similarly, on the same day, another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 struck Tezpur in Assam. The NCS provided details that the epicenter was situated 39 kilometers west of Tezpur, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The earthquake occurred at 10:05 am local time.

The NCS shared the information via a tweet, stating, "Earthquake of Magnitude:3.7, Occurred on 09-06-2023, 10:05:59 IST, Lat: 26.60 & Long: 92.40, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 39km W of Tezpur, Assam, India."

The NCS functions as the designated authority under the Government of India to monitor earthquake activity throughout the country. It operates and maintains the National Seismological Network, which comprises more than 150 stations equipped with advanced technology spread across various regions of India.
