Indian Railways’ western railway zone has taken a unique initiative to promote sports culture among the youth.
As a part of this initiative an indoor cricket academy has been opened under Western Railway, which is the first of its kind on Indian Railways.
The indoor cricket academy was inaugurated by A.K. Gupta, general manager of Western Railway, at Mahalaxmi Sports stadium in Mumbai.
The new cricket academy will have three turf pitches with pitch size - 10.55 meters X 2.75 meters. The structure’s height is 6 meters, length 32.6 meters and width 12.68 meters.
The cricket academy will also have an automatic bowling machine. This machine is a Bola Professional 2019 bowling machine with 3 number ball feeder. The speed range of bowling is 45 MPH to 99 MPH with auto feeder of 24 balls at a time.
The Speed is adjustable in MPH or KMPH having spin/swing/pace variation with 19 spin and swing settings. The time between 2 deliveries is adjustable to 8 - 13 seconds. It has a remote control for speed variation.
All aspects are taken care of including separate settings for left-handed and right-handed batsman.
The indoor hall will be a great boon to our cricketers, especially during the monsoons as it will not hinder their practice.
The academy will help in providing the training to the new players and good technical practice to the existing players so that they can improve their skills further to represent the Western Railway and the country.
