Delhi Airport: More than 20 flights delayed, several cancelled amid protests against CAA

24 flights have been delayed from Delhi Airport today in the wake of nation-wide protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act

    As many as 24 flights have been delayed from Delhi Airport today in the wake of nation-wide protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act. IndiGo has cancelled 19 flights, after its crew members got stuck in traffic jam, also due to other issues. Eight Air India flights has also been delayed today.

    "Due to traffic restrictions and to accommodate passengers reaching late to the airport, we have rescheduled and curtailed our schedule in and out of Delhi by approximately 20 departures," IndiGo said in a statement, adding that this accounts for about 10% of its total flights out of the capital

    If you have plans to travel from Delhi today, check with the airlines and traffic advisory before leaving your house. As the protest against recently passed Citizenship (Amendment)Act continues even on Thursday, several airlines has issued travel advisories for their customers.

    Massive traffic jams were reported in many parts of the national capital as the Delhi Police imposed traffic restrictions. The police had already imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 that bar an assembly of more than four people around Red Fort.

    Traffic congestion has been reported at the Delhi-Gurugram border on National Highway 48 due to barricading by Delhi Police.

    "In view of the current heavy traffic congestion along the Gurugram-Delhi highway, resulting in inconvenience to passengers, reissue/no-show/cancellation and refund charges for all domestic & international tickets for travel from Delhi on 19th Dec 2019 shall be waived," tweeted Air India.

    Budget airlines Vistara assures its customers that those who miss flight due to traffic congestion in Delhi-Gurugram highway will be accommodated on next Vistara flight. Passengers do not need to pay any extra charge. Vistara will give you a ticket in the next flight depending on the availability of seats in the airplane.

    If you are travelling from Delhi Airport in Vistara today, you can cancel or reschedule the flight without paying any extra money. Flyers only need to pay the cost difference.

    IndiGo has asked customers to keep a tab on live traffic as several roads have been blocked by the Delhi police. IndiGo has also advised to track the flight status before reaching airport. Passengers should have enough travel time in hand while reaching Delhi airport, said IndiGo.


    The day started with the cancellations of several flight travelling to and from Delhi due to poor visibility. Low visibility procedures are implemented at Delhi Airport in the morning said Delhi Airport on Twitter.

    Delhi Airport has also issued an advisory mentioning that flights might get impacted due to crew operational limitations.

    SpiceJet has also issued travel advisory for its customers. Passengers are asked to track flight status and keep an eye on live traffic while travelling to Delhi airport.
