PremiumThe world lost a great mind and successful leader who boosted the growth of the world's biggest spirits company Diageo. Diageo's India-born CEO, Ivan Manuel Menezes, died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment for a stomach ulcer.
Days ago, Ivan Manuel was hospitalized for the treatment of the same illness, but his situation worsened due to the complications. To alleviate the situation, doctors performed emergency surgery on the ulcer, however, nothing could save Ivan Manuel.
On Monday, Diageo announced that the CEO designate Debra Crew will lead the firm temporarily till Menezes undergoes treatment. With the demise of Menezes, it is still unclear about the successor.
Under his leadership, Diageo rose to become one of the leading spirit companies in the world. Now, Diago makes premium spirits like Johnie Walker whisky, Tanqueray gin, etc.

-Ivan Manuel Menezes' father Manuel Menezes was the chairman of the Indian Railway Board.
-Ivan was born in Pune on July 10, 1959. He completed his graduation from St Stephens College in Delhi. He pursued MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Later he went for further education at Kellogg School of Management.
-India-born Ivan held UK and US citizenship, and Overseas Citizenship for India.
-His brother, Victor Menezes served as the chairman and CEO of Citibank.
- Ivan married his college-time sweetheart, Shibani, with whom he had two children Nikhil and Rohini.
-Ivan Menezes joined Diageo in 1997 after the company was formed post-merger of Guinness and Grand Metropolitan.
-He became the Executive Director of the firm in July 2012, and then CEO in July 2013.
-Under his leadership, the Spirit company expanded hugely. Currently, Diageo makes premium brands like Johnnie Walker whisky, Tanqueray gin, and Don Julio tequila.
-Ivan was also one of Britain's longest-serving and most respected FTSE Chief Executives. World's leading spirit brand, Diageo, currently sells over 200 brands in more than 180 markets.
-The company is known for its brands in Scotch whisky, vodka, gin, rum, Canadian whisky, liqueurs, and also tequila1. Interestingly, the firm had no substantive position in these fields eight years ago.
