G20 Summit 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday passed the gavel to Brazil's Lula as the G20 summit closes.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi said that productive discussions at the G20 Summit for a better planet.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, UK PM Rishi Sunak, Australian PM Anthony Albanese, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and other Heads of state and government and Heads of international organizations observe a minute of silence and lay a wreath at Delhi's Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

Meanwhile, the African Union formally took its seat as a new member of the G20 Saturday at the invitation of summit host and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Modi announced on Saturday that the leaders of G20 countries have reached a consensus on New Delhi G20 Leaders Declaration. The announcement is significant as the deliberations on the Delhi declaration were clouded by the different positions on Russia-Ukraine war.

    1. As Leaders of G20, the premier global forum for international economic cooperation, we resolve to act in concrete ways through partnerships. We commit to:

    2.  Accelerate strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth.

     3. Accelerate the full and effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

    4. Improve access to medical countermeasures and facilitate more supplies and production capacities in developing countries to prepare better for future health emergencies.

    5. Promote resilient growth by urgently and effectively addressing debt vulnerabilities in developing countries.

The Ukrainian foreign ministry said on Saturday the G20's joint declaration was "nothing to be proud of" and criticised it for not mentioning Russia.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Oleg Nikolenko posted a screenshot of the relevant section of the joint declaration, with several pieces of the text crossed out in red and corrected with wording which reflects Ukraine's position that it is a victim of unprovoked Russian aggression.

G20 Summit: 'Most important outcome of this Summit is the inclusion of the African Union as a full member of the G20,' says Tristen Naylor| WATCH

"Having a declaration is a success for PM Modi & the host of G 20...The most important outcome of this Summit is the inclusion of the African Union as a full member of the G 20. That is a big step forward in increasing the legitimacy of the club & creating meaningful links with the global south. India is well-positioned to act as a bridge between the global south & the other actors be it the West or the Gulf states, Middle East, China and Russia. India is well-positioned diplomatically, which certainly gives it an advantage in forging links with those not included in the group...," says Tristen Naylor, Assistant Professor, International Politics and History, University of Cambridge.
