In the ongoing controversy over the social media posts regarding Aurangeb and Tipu Sultan in Maharashtra, the Union Minister Giriraj Singh has called Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, as 'Sapoot (son) of India.
"The assassin of Mahatma Gandhi was not an invader like Mughal rulers Babar and Aurangzeb as he was born in India," the Union Minister said on Friday.
He made the controversial statement while replying to the query about a statement of AIMIM chief Asadudddin Owaisi, who had asked question related to Godse in reaction to Maharashra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' comment on Aurangzeb. Criticising those who were supporting Aurangeb, the said that individuals who take pride in being called the descendants of Babur cannot be considered true sons of India.
On the other hand, the Maharashtra Police has registered an FIR against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Sandeep Deshpande and eight other under Maharashtra Police Act 37, 135 for burning an effigy of Aurangzeb post Kolhapur violence.
Til Wednesday, curfew was imposed in Kolhapur after the violent clashes erupted between two groups. To control the situation, police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has crticised those who were supporting the erstwhile Mugal emperor.
"Suddenly, in some districts of Maharashtra, sons of Aurangzeb took birth. They keep the status of Aurangzeb and show their posters. Because of this, there are tensions. Questions arise, where do these sons of Aurangzeb come from? Who are behind this? We will find this out," said Fadnavis while talking to ANI in Nagpur.
Giriraj Singh, who is no unknown name in such controversies, accused Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel of "damaging the federal structure of the state". In his statement, Giriraj Singh accused the Chhattisgarh government of encouraging conversion in the state. He also demanded the implementation of a strict law in this regard, and ensured people that his government will bring a similar law.
