Good News for Railway employees: Cabinet approves ₹1,866-crore productivity-linked bonus ahead of Diwali
A Union Cabinet meeting, chaired by PM Modi, approved a ₹1,865.68 crore productivity-linked bonus for Railway employees. Here are the details.
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the payment of productivity-linked bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ wages, amounting to ₹1,865.68 crore, for 10 lakh non-gazetted railway employees. The cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PLB payment to all eligible railway employees is made each year before the Durga Puja holidays.
How much bonus will be paid?
Railway employees eligible for the productivity-linked bonus will get up to ₹17,951, equal to 78 days' wages, as per the official statement.
This year, the PLB will be paid to 10,91,146 railway employees.
Who gets the bonus?
The bonus will be paid to various categories of railway staff, including:
- Track maintainers,
- Loco Pilots,
- Train Managers (Guard),
- Station Masters,
- Supervisors,
- Technicians,
- Technician Helpers,
- Pointsman,
- Ministerial Staff,
- and other Group ‘C’ staff.
What was the PLB bonus last year?
Last year, the Union Cabinet had approved payment of a productivity-linked bonus to over 11.72 lakh railway employees in October. The productivity-linked incentive was equal to 78 days' salary, totalling ₹2,029 crore.
Other packages approved
On Wednesday, the Cabinet also approved a ₹69,725 crore package for shipbuilding and maritime sector development, and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research scheme.
- The Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme (SBFAS), which is a part of the package, will be extended until March 31, 2036, with a total fund of ₹24,736 crore. The scheme's goal is to encourage shipbuilding in India. Additionally, a National Shipbuilding Mission will be set up to manage all related initiatives.
- The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research scheme was approved with a total outlay of ₹2,277.397 crore. Implemented by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the scheme will cover all R&D institutions, national laboratories, Institutes of National Importance, Institutes of Eminence, and Universities across the country.
