Govt appoints Surjit S Bhalla as Executive Director for India at IMF
Premium- Surjit Bhalla earlier served as a member of the prime minister's economic advisory council but resigned earlier this year
- His appointment has been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Government has appointed economist Surjit Bhalla as the executive director of the International Monetary Fund for a period of three years. The post was lying vacant after the death of Dr Subir Gokarn in July.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr. Surjit S. Bhalla, Economist, as Executive Director (India), International Monetary Fund for a period of three years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post or until further orders whichever is earlier," a statement from the Department of Personnel and Training said.
Bhalla earlier served as a member of the prime minister's economic advisory council but resigned earlier this year.
His appointment has been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
