Govt interviews candidates for RBI's deputy governor post as MK Jain's tenure to end on June 22
Possible candidates, including SBI's J Swaminathan and Union Bank of India's V Srinivasan, were interviewed for the post of deputy governor at RBI, which will be vacant in June 2023.
The government has likely carried out an interview round on Thursday for the post of deputy governor at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). A DG post will be vacant once Mahesh Kumar Jain completes his tenure at RBI on June 22, 2023. Possible candidates that were interviewed include many bankers such as SBI's MD J Swaminathan and Union Bank of India's chairman V Srinivasan among others.
The candidates are interviewed by a panel that includes RBI governor Shaktikanta Das, cabinet secretary, secretary DFS, and CEA.
As per the CNBC report, candidates in the fray include SBI's MD J Swaminathan, Union Bank of India's chairman V Srinivasan, AS Rajeev of Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Bank's MD Shanti Lal Jain, and UCO Bank's MD Soma Sankara Prasad.

MK Jain took charge as the Deputy Governor of RBI in June 2018 for a 3-years tenure. He was re-appointed in June 2021 for another two-year period with effect from June 22, 2021.
Hence, MK Jain's tenure of 2 years is scheduled to end on June 22, 2023.

At RBI, as deputy governor, Jain currently looks after the Department of Banking Supervision, Department of Co-operative Banking Supervision, Department of Non-Banking Supervision, Central Security Cell, Department of Corporate Services including Document Management System, Rajbhasha Department, Consumer Education and Protection Department, Financial Inclusion and Development Department and Premises Department.
