New Delhi: The government has removed the procurement ceiling of 40% for tur, urad and masur under Price Support Scheme (PSS) for 2023-24 to boost domestic production of pulses.
This comes at a time when procurement of tur and urad under PSS was almost zero due to skyrocketing market prices amid lower production.
In the ongoing Kharif and Rabi marketing season, the agriculture department has been able to procure about 70,000 tonnes of masur (lentils), 644 tonnes of tur (arhar or pigeon peas) and 1,500 tonnes and urad (black gram). “The assured procurement of these pulses by the government at remunerative prices will help motivate the farmers to enhance sowing area in respect of tur, urad and masur in the upcoming Kharif and Rabi sowing seasons to enhance the production,” according to an official statement.
The stock limit on tur and urad have been made applicable to wholesalers, retailers, big chain retailers, millers, and importers. It has also been made mandatory for these entities to declare the stock position on the DoCA’s https://fcainfoweb.nic.in/psp portal.
