Taking a jibe on the centre amid rising prices of tomatoes, Aam Aadmi Party MP, Raghav Chadha said that ‘even McDonald’s can't afford tomatoes.

Amid the news of the global food chain, dropping tomatoes from its dishes in India due to inflation, Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha targeted the government and said, ‘Even McDonald’s can't afford tomatoes'.

In his recent tweet, he also said that the inflation has spiraled out of control in homes and restaurants. This is the main reason why the centre has “turned happy meals into sad meals”.

“Even McDonald's can't afford tomatoes anymore. Be it in our homes or restaurants, with inflation spiraling out of control, the government has turned happy meals into sad meals,” tweeted Raghav Chadha on Saturday.

The fast food chain McDonald's dropped tomatoes from its burgers and wraps in many parts of India due to its high prices, reported PTI. It is worth noting that tomato price has shot to as high as 150 to 200 per kg in many cities of India.

Generally, customers are served with burgers having a slice of tomato between buns. The vegetable is also used in large amount in wraps as well. As of now, these food items will not have tomatoes.

In its official notice, McDonald cited the main reason behind limiting the use of tomatoes to be seasonal constraints, which have made it difficult to procure tomatoes as per the quality standards.

“Due to seasonal crop issues arising out of farm fields in a few regions, there are not enough quantities meeting our quality specifications available. To ensure our customers get the best quality we are known to serve, we are constrained to hold tomatoes for the time being,” a McDonald's India - North and East spokesperson told PTI.

Soon after the news social media was filled with memes and comments on the announcement by the food chain. While many shared memes and images of McDonald's burger without tomatoes, others widely shared the images of the notice put out by McDonald's in its stores.
