Gujarat High Court receives bomb threat via email, post-lunch hearing suspended

Following the bomb threat, the Gujarat High Court suspended post-lunch hearings and asked the lawyers to leave the premises.

The Gujarat High Court on Monday received a bomb threat via email from an unknown source, reported ANI, quoting a senior police officer.

According to the report, which quoted Deputy Police Commissioner Safin Hasan, the Gujarat High Court suspended post-lunch hearings and asked the lawyers to leave the premises. Meanwhile, a security check is being conducted.

Police, BDDS, and dog squads are investigating the matter.

All gates remain open, but security has been heightened at the court complexlocated on Sarkhej-Gandhi Highway in Ahmedabad.

After a thorough check of the court premises, the bomb threat turned out to be a hoax.

The email, which was sent by an unidentified person at around 11.45 am to the official ID of the Gujarat HC, claimed a blast by an improvised explosive device (IED) will take place in the court building in the evening, Hasan said.

"The sender warned that an IED blast will take place in one of the buildings of the high court in the evening. Upon learning about the threat, local police along with six teams of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad reached the spot and started an anti-sabotage operation," Hasan told reporters.

As part of the operation, the police carried out a thorough check of the premises located on Sarkhej-Gandhi Highway in Ahmedabad, including all the court buildings, chambers, as well as parked and in-coming cars, theDeputy Police Commissionersaid.

Nothing suspicious has been found in the premises, he added.

On April 22, the Gauhati High Court in Assam's capital city, had received a similar bomb threat via email.

However, it turned out to be a hoax.

Following the threat, security personnel rushed to the high court and conducted a search operation.

"It is a bomb hoax. The threat was received via email," a senior police official had told ANI.

Earlier on April 18, a bomb threat call received at Chakeri Airport in Kanpur afternoon was found to be a hoax, and the caller was apprehended within hours.
