New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea seeking to implement the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme in the national capital citing its political nature.

The bench presided by Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Abhijit Mishra, an economist. Mishra, in his plea, had sought direction to the Delhi government for implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PMJAY). He said the Delhi government had neither issued any notification nor made any effort to implement the scheme.

He also said the government had not formulated any health insurance and welfare schemes equivalent to the Ayushman Bharat for the residents of Delhi. The PMJAY was launched for the welfare of the weaker section of the society.
