NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Friday issued notice to Centre on a plea seeking evacuation of Indian students stranded in Bangladesh amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The hearing took place through video conferencing.

The plea also sought appointment of nodal officers in the Indian embassies and to ensure they they can be reached during this time of global health emergency.

The plea said there were around 581 students stranded in Bangladesh.

The students are stuck in a university campus and face safety issues as they do not have access to masks and hand sanitisers, as per the plea filed by advocate Gaurav Kumar Bansal who cited a message received by him from a student stranded in Bangladesh.

The petitioner sought directions to Centre and external affairs ministry to take measures for safe return of the students, most of them from Jammu and Kashmir.
