After some respite from the heat in many Indian states, West Bengal is likely to witness severe heatwave-like conditions for the next seven days, predicted Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday. As per its latest bulletin, dry weather will prevail in parts of West Bengal from 1-7 June, where temperature can shoot to as high as 3 degree Celsius above normal temperature.

Heatwave conditions and hot and discomfort weather is likely to prevail over the districts of West Bengal between 1 and 7 June 2023, said the weather forecasting agency in its report. High temperatures for the next seven days can lead to heat cramps, rashes, and other discomfort in severely ill people. In the wake of high rise in temperature in many regions of the West Bengal, IMD has issued yellow alert for the state for next five days.

1 June 2023

Heat wave-like conditions will prevail at one or two places over West Burdwan, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Purulia, Maida, and North and South Dinajpur districts. Heat wave conditions to prevail in Bihar and Sikkim as well from 1 to 5 June.

2 June 2023

Extremely high temperatures will be a major cause of discomfort for people living over West Burdwan, North and South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum, Maida, and North and South Dinajpur districts of West Bengal. High humidity and harsh weather will continue to be a problem for people. Extreme temperature will also be a cause of discomfort for people in states like Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Chattisgarh on 2 June and 3 June.

3-5 June 2023

A heat wave-like condition will prevail in areas of East and West Burdwan, North 24 Parganas, West Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura, Birdbhum, Jhargam, Murshidabad, Adia, Madia, and North and South Dinajpur of West Bengal. Other than West Bengal, heat wave will also trouble people living in Bihar, West Bengal & Sikkim.

6-7 June 2023

Scorching temperatures in areas like South Bengal and Maida, North, and South Dinajpur districts, etc.
