Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh blanketed in snow after receiving fresh snowfall.
The India Meteorological Department had predicted thunderstorms, hail, and rainfall in 10 districts of Himachal Pradesh on Friday.
The IMD Shimla told PTI news agency, "Thunderstorms with lightning, hail and strong wind (30-40kmph) are very likely at isolated places over Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Una during the next 48 hours".
The News Himachal reported that rainfall will occur in several districts of Himachal Pradesh till April 30.
The weather monitoring agency also predicted hailstorms in Shimla, Solan, Kullu, Sirmaur, Chamba, Kangra, Bilaspur, and Mandi districts in the coming days.
Last week, 104 roads and three national highways were blocked in Himachal Pradesh due to snowfall and rain.
Severe heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over large swathes of India as 2024 is forecasted to emerge as the hottest year on record.
The IMD has predicted heatwave conditions in many places over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and in isolated pockets over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal till April 30.
As per the IMD's media statement, "Heatwave conditions in isolated pockets over Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, East Uttar Pradesh during the next four days; Kerala and Mahe during 26th-28th; Konkan, Goa during 28th-29th and West Uttar Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh during 28th-30th April 2024."
The weather department has also issued a heatwave alert for Maharashtra's Thane, and Raigad districts and parts of Mumbai from April 27 to 29. In Jharkhand, the weather office has also predicted temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius across most areas of the state. Above-normal temperatures are predicted in areas including Kolhan, Santhal, and North Chotanagpur divisions until April 29.
