Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the new Parliament building today, Sunday, May 28. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Hariwansh and some senior ministers in the government will also be part of the ceremony.
The new Parliament Building will represent the ethos of India with different materials of the building sourced from India's various regions. The sandstone for the building has been brought from Rajasthan's Samthura while the Ashoka Chakras inside both houses have been sourced from Indore.
1) The sandstone for the new Parliament building has been procured from Rajasthan's Sarmathura. Notably, sandstone for Delhi's Humayun's Tomb and Red Fort is also known to be sourced from Sarmathura.
2) The Kesharia green stone inside the Lok Sabha chamber has been sourced from Udaipur while the red granite inside the Rajya Sabha chamber has been procured from Lakha in Ajmer and the white marbles has been brought from Ambaji.
3) The furniture for the new parliament building was crafted in Mumbai while the teakwood for the building was procured from Nagpur.
4) The steel used in the false ceiling structure of the new Parliament Building was brought from Daman and Diu and the material for sculpting Ashoka Emblem was sourced from Aurangabad and Jaipur.
5) The Ashoka Chakras that are installed inside Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha along with the Parliament's exterior were sourced from Indore.
6) The lattice work around the new Parliament was sourced from Rajasthan, Noida and Uttar Pradesh.
7) Stone aggregates for the new building were procured from Kotputali and the sculptors who did the carving work belonged to Udaipur's Abu Road.
8) The M-Sand was procured from Chakari Dadri, Haryana, and Fly Ash Bricks from NCR Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and the Brass work and Pre-cast Trenches were got from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, while the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha false ceiling steel structures came from UT of Daman and Diu.
9) The stone carving work was obtained from Abu Road and Udaipur, and the stone aggregate was from Kotputali, Rajasthan.
10) The newly constructed building of Parliament, which will work to further enrich India's glorious democratic traditions and constitutional values, is also equipped with state-of-the-art facilities which will help the Members to perform their functions in a better way.
