National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson, Rekha Sharma, has expressed grave concern over the recent surge in horrifying killings, including the Mira Road murder, and highlighted that individuals are drawing inspiration from past incidents to commit such heinous crimes.

Sharma emphasised the increasing occurrence of crimes against live-in partners and stressed the need for society to reflect upon ways to address this issue. She particularly called upon the families involved and urged a deeper examination of the upbringing of children who engage in such crimes.

"I have seen people now taking clues from past incidents which are very gruesome and heinous. These kinds of crimes against live-in partners have increased in the recent past. Society needs to think about how to control it, especially the families of both, and how we are raising our children who are doing such crimes," the NCW chairperson told ANI.

The suspect, Manoj Sane, was apprehended by the police for the murder of his live-in partner, Saraswati Vaidya, and dismembering her body. The accused had been residing with Vaidya in a rented flat in the Akashganga building of Mira Road for the past three years.

The NCW has taken suo moto cognizance of the case and intends to correspond with the Director-General of Police to ensure appropriate action is taken.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Police, Jayant Bajbale, confirmed that various body parts were discovered in utensils within the residence. The accused, Manoj Sane, allegedly used a tree cutter to carry out the gruesome act. The recovered body parts have been sent for further examination to JJ Hospital.

Bajbale clarified that although the accused had indeed boiled some of the body parts, he did not feed them to dogs as initially reported. The suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody until 16th June.

The police investigation revealed that the accused had boiled the body parts in a pressure cooker before transferring them into plastic bags for disposal.

This shocking incident bears resemblance to a similar case that occurred in Delhi last year, where a 27-year-old woman named Shraddha Walkar was brutally killed by her live-in partner.

Further investigation into the case is ongoing as authorities seek to uncover more details surrounding this appalling crime.
