The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued orange alert for several states in India owing to heavy rainfall predictions. The weather department said that providing relief from scorching heatwave, heavy rainfall is expected in Jammu Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and south Haryana on 24 May.

Northwest India:
-Rainfall at most places with thunderstorm, lightning and occasional gusty winds or squall very likely over Western Himalayan Region during 23 to 26 May
-Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and occasional gusty winds or squall is very likely to occur over plains of Northwest India mainly during 23 to 26 May with maximum intensity on 24 and 25 May.
-Thundersquall or Gusty Wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph likely over Uttarakhand on 24 and 25 May, and over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on 24 May
-Similar conditions will also prevail over West Uttar Pradesh on 25 May.
-Heavy rainfall very likely over Himachal Pradesh on 23 and 24 May, over Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Punjab, south Haryana on 24 May
-Hailstorm very likely over Himachal Pradesh on 23 and 24 May, over Uttarakhand during 23 to 25 May, over Punjab and Haryana on 24 May, and over West Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan on 24 and 25 May
-Dust-storm, thunderstorm with gusty winds (40-50 kmph) likely over Rajasthan during 23-25 May
-Strong Surface winds (speed 25-35 kmph) very likely over plains of northwest India during 23 to 25 May
Northeast India:
-Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds very likely to continue over the Assam and Meghalaya during next 4 days.
-Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya during 23 to 26 May, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on 24th - 26 May, 2023.
East India:
-Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds very likely to occur over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next five days
-Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds over rest parts of East India will occur during next 5 days.
-Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Bihar on 24 and 25 May, over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 25 and 26 May, and over Jharkhand on 26 May.
-Hailstorm very likely over Bihar and West Bengal and Sikkim on 23 and 24 May.
-Thundersquall or Gusty Wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal on 23 and 24 May.
Central India:
-Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds likely to occur over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during next 5 days.
South India:
- Rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds very likely over Kerala, Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Lakshadweep during next 5 days and over Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh on 23 and 24 May
-Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Kerala on 23, 26, and 27 May.
