The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) on Thursday warned the the brewing cyclonic storm Mocha is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by midnight, 11 May. This comes as east Indian remains on high alert, for possible destruction brought upon by the tropical storm.
The IMD also warned that extreme heatwave conditions would prevail over West Bengal, Konkan, North Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat till 12 May and abate thereafter.

-Maximum temperatures are very likely to rise by 3-5°C over most parts of the country during next 3 days except over East India
-Due to humid air and high temperature, hot and discomfort weather is very likely over Konkan during next 3 days, over Odisha during next 5 days, Kerala and Tamil Nadu on 13 and 14 May
-Heat wave conditions very likely in isolated pockets over Gujarat state, Madhya Maharashtra, Bihar and West Bengal on 10 and 11 May, over Konkan on 11 May, over Rajasthan on 12 and 13 May, and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during 13-15 May.

-Heavy rainfall is likely on 11 May in Andaman and Nicobar islands
-Very heavy rainfall likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar islands on 12 May
-Heavy rainfall will prevail in the area on 13 and 14 May.
-Heavy rainfall is likely to occur over Tripura and Mizoram on 13 May
-Very heavy rainfall will also occur over the areas on 14t May.
-Heavy rainfall likely to occur over Nagaland, Manipur and south Assam 14 May.

The IMD informed that the cyclonic storm Mocha lay stationed over southeast Bay of Bengal about 510 km west-southwest of Port Blair, 1190 km south-southwest of Coxs Bazar (Bangladesh)

-IMD informed that Cyclone Mocha will gradually intensify into a severe cyclonic storm around night of today, 11 May.
-Thereafter, it is likely to recurve gradually, from 12 May morning and intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm around 12 May evening over central Bay of Bengal.
-Cyclone Mocha will reach its peak intensity around 13 May evening
-It is likely to cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar), close to Sittwe (Myanmar) around noon of 14 May, 2023 with maximum sustained wind speed of 140-150 kmph gusting to 165 kmph

-Thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds with rainfall very likely over Kerala and Mahe during next 5 days, over South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on 11 and 12 May and light rainfall over rest parts of the region on 11 May.
-Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Kerala on 11 May.
No significant weather change likely over rest parts of the country.
