India and Africa forge strong friendship, poised to become future powerhouse: Goyal

New Delhi: Commerce and Industry minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday hosted a gathering of 15 ambassadors from various African countries in New Delhi, highlighting the longstanding friendship between India and Africa and emphasizing their potential to become a powerhouse in the future.

The meeting aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, enhancing trade relations, and exploring avenues of collaboration between India and Africa. Goyal expressed his appreciation for the remarkable friendship shared between India and Africa over the decades. He underlined the immense possibilities of both regions becoming influential global forces in the times to come.

According to the ministry, Piyush Goyal highlighted the significant value of India-Africa relationship. and emphasized the commitment of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards making Africa a top priority and deepening India’s engagement with Africa on a sustained and regular way. He encouraged the heads of missions to work in solidarity and extended a hand of friendship for the growth of the African and Indian sub-continent.

Reiterating that this gathering marked the initiation of a new era of collaboration, Goyal assured that India would act as a reliable partner in expanding trade, commerce, business, investment, and opportunities between the two regions. He further stated that India is open to bilateral or individual Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with African countries or Africa as a whole.

The event witnessed the participation of Ambassadors from key African nations, including Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, Republic of Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Morocco, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. This platform provided an exclusive opportunity for diplomatic representatives to engage in productive discussions, strengthen bilateral ties, and establish new partnerships for mutual growth and development.
