New Delhi: An Indian military helicopter crashed in eastern Bhutan on Friday, killing two pilots one from the Indian army and a second from the Bhutanese army — on board, a spokesman for the Indian Army in New Delhi said.
The crash, caused by bad weather, took place near Yonphulla, the Indian army spokesman said, adding that the helicopter was on its way from Khirmu in Arunanchal Pradesh in India.
The single engine Cheetah helicopter was on a training mission, the spokesman said. A search and rescue operation was immediately launched from the Bhutanese side soon after the helicopter went out of contact, with Indian military helicopters from Misamari and Guwahati in Assam and Hasimara in West Bengal being pressed into service, the spokesman said.
