Indian Navy's Heavy Weight Torpedo engages an underwater target| Watch

Indian Navy successfully engaged an underwater target with an indigenously developed Heavy Weight Torpedo, praised by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

Indian Navy informed on Tuesday that a heavy weight indigenously developed Torpedo successfully engaged an underwater target. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also congratulated Indian Navy and DRDO for the remarkable feat while commenting that it showcases India's commitment to future proof combat readiness through aatmanirbharta.

Announcing the news on Twitter, Spokesperson of the Indian Navy wrote, “Successful engagement of an Underwater Target by an indigenously developed Heavy Weight Torpedo is a significant milestone in #IndianNavy's & @DRDO_India's quest for accurate delivery of ordnance on target in the underwater domain."

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also praised the Indian Navy on Twitter, he wrote, "Another significant milestone achieved by Indian Navy! An indigenously developed Heavy Weight Torpedo successfully engages an Underwater Target! Congratulations to @indiannavy & @DRDO_India for showcasing 🇮🇳’s commitment to Future Proof Combat Readiness through #AatmaNirbharta"

Just last week, MH-60 ‘Romeo’ multi-mission helicopter took its maiden landing on the indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. MH-60R helicopter manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corporation is an all-weather helicopter designed to support multiple missions with state-of-the-art avionics and sensors.

Senior navy officials had said that integration of MH-60 R with Indian Navy warships would further strengthen the Navy's capability to counter underwater threats, monitor maritime activities and conduct surveillance operations.

Indian Navy divers and Marine Commandos are currently in Maldives for the sixth edition of Exercise Ekatha with Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). The annual exercise is being held from June 4 till July 3 in a bid to enhance interoperability in diving and special operations between the two forces.
