
Indian Railways gives travel concessions in passenger fare to 53 categories of passengers and the element of concession ranges from 10% to 100%. The passengers, who are eligible to avail this concessions should be from any of these categories - physically challenged, patients, senior citizens, Izzat MST (Monthly Season Ticket). Senior Citizens of foreign nationals and Non-resident Indians (NRIs) have been excluded from the senior citizen category for the purpose of concession in passenger fare. No concession has been given in the newly introduced trains like Humsafar, Antyodaya, Gatimaan and Vande Bharat. All these information was shared by the Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The travel concessions in passenger fare to 11 categories of patients and the details of element of concession are as under:
1) Cancer patients travelling alone or with an escort for treatment
2) Thalassemia patients travelling alone or with escort for periodic check-up
3) Heart patients travelling alone or with an escort for heart surgery
4) Kidney patients travelling alone or with an escort for kidney transplant Operation/Dialysis
5) Haemophilia patients travelling alone or with an escort for treatment
6) T.B./Lupas Valgaris patients travelling alone or with an escort
7) Non-infectious Leprosy patients
8) AIDS patients - for treatment/check-up at nominated ART Centres
9) Ostomy patients
10) Sickle cell Anaemia
11) Aplastic Anaemia
All these concessions are applicable only on the base fare.
