New Delhi: Road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday announced that the construction of India’s first elevated 8-lane access control road, Dwarka Expressway, spanning 29.6 kilometers and costing ₹9,000 crore, will be almost completed by April 2024.
The expressway, which is 34 meters wide, is being constructed on a single pillar, covering 18.9 kilometers in Haryana and 10.1 kilometers in Delhi.
Gadkari, accompanied by Delhi lieutenant governor V.K. Saxena, Union MoS General V.K. Singh, Union MoS Rao Inderjit Singh, MP Pravesh Singh Verma, and MP Ramesh Bidhuri, inspected the progress of the expressway today.
During his interaction with the media, Gadkari said the expressway consists of a four-level road network, incorporating flyovers, tunnels, underpasses, grade roads, elevated roads, and flyovers. Additionally, a 3-lane service road is being constructed on both sides of the expressway.
He further highlighted that the country’s widest 8-lane tunnel, spanning 3.6 kilometers, is being built on this expressway in Delhi. This development will significantly enhance connectivity between Haryana and West Delhi to the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Gadkari emphasized the key intersections of the expressway in Haryana, including Pataudi Road (SH-26) near Harsaru and Farukhnagar (SH-15A) near Basai, as well as the crossing with the Delhi-Rewari rail line near Gurgaon Sector-88 (B) and UER-II at Bharthal.
He added that the expressway will connect Gurgaon’s Sector-21 with Sector-88, 83, 84, 99, 113, and Dwarka to Global City. Moreover, the entire expressway will incorporate an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) facility, enhancing the overall transportation experience.
