Indigo flight status highlights: Airline cancels nearly 220 flights in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru today

Five IndiGo flights scheduled to depart from Agartala airport on Wednesday were cancelled. “IndiGo cancelled five flights from Agartala today. The remaining six flights are operating as per schedule,” airport director K.M. Nehra told PTI.

IndiGo cancelled over 350 flights from and to 4 metro airports alone on Tuesday, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

IndiGo commands over 65 per cent of India's total domestic traffic. The Gurugram-based carrier had cancelled over 560 flights from six metro airports alone on Monday, PTI reported.

A total of 152 flight cancellations to and from Delhi's IGI Delhi airport were registered on Tuesday, including 76 departures and 76 arrivals.

The Rahul Bhatia-helmed airline operates nearly 2,200 flights every day from 90-odd domestic destinations and 40-plus abroad destinations.

President of the Montreal-based International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations (IFALPA), Captain Ron Hay raised concerns over Indian government's decision to grant the exemption to the rest rules as it was not based on scientific evidence.

“We are informed that the change is due to staffing issues,” Reuters quoted Captain Ron Hay as saying. He added, “This is troubling as fatigue clearly affects safety.”

Speaking over IndiGo fiasco, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu in Lok Sabha said, "No airline, however large, will be permitted to cause such hardship to passengers through planning failures, non-compliance."

He added, “IndiGo disruptions are stabilising; all other airlines continue to operate smoothly across the country. Airports across the country are reporting normal conditions, with no crowding or distress. Refunds, baggage tracing and passenger support measures remain under the supervision of the Ministry. DGCA has issued show-cause notices to IndiGo's senior leadership and commenced a detailed enforcement investigation. Based on the report, strict and appropriate action will be taken. No airline, however large, will be permitted to cause such hardship to passengers through planning failures, non-compliance,” ANI reported.

Following Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu's statement in Lok Sabha on Tuesday on IndiGo flight disruptions, opposition parties staged walkout.

Winter session of parliament on Tuesday discussed IndiGo meltdown amid 200 flight cancellations at Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports.

Amid IndiGo flight disruptions, DGCA’s High-Level Committee summoned top IndiGo executives, including CEO Pieter Elbers, according to India Today report. The executives are schedule to meet officials of the four-member panel on Wednesday.

DGCA had approved 15,014 departures per week, totalling to 64,346 approved flights for November. However, “wide disruptions due to massive cancellations of flights” forced the aviation watchdog to withdraw the approval. It instructed IndiGo to submit a revised schedule latest by 10 December 2025, 5:00 PM.

“As per the operational data submitted by Indigo, it has been observed that 59,438 flights were actually operated during November 2025, with 951 flight cancellations recorded during the month. Whereas, as compared to SS25, Indigo was allowed an enhancement of the schedule by 6% with 403 aircraft as against 351 aircraft in SS25. However, it has been observed that the airline could operate only 339 aircraft in October 2025 and 344 aircraft in November 2025. From the above, it is inferred that Indigo has increased its departures by 9.66% in comparison to Winter Schedule 24 (WS 24) and by 6.05% in relation to Summer Schedule 25 (SS 25). However, the airline has not demonstrated an ability to operate these schedules efficiently,” the notice said.

The aviation watchdog DGCA directed IndiGo to “submit a revised schedule by 5 PM on 10th December 2025.”

Office of the Director General of Civil Aviation on Monday issued a notice that said, "IndiGo has not demonstrated the ability to operate its schedules efficiently. It is directed to reduce the schedule by 5% across sectors. IndiGo is required to submit a revised schedule by 5 pm on 10th December."

Amid several flight cancellations to date, IndiGo on Monday said it is operating over 1,800 flights across its network, reconnecting all stations that it serves.

The airline said its operations have stabilized with a 91 per cent on-time performance, marking a recovery from the previous week's schedule issues.

Union Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said, "During the NDA parliamentary meeting the PM told NDA MPs that people should not be troubled, face inconvenience. Rules and laws are good but in order to correct the system it is not right to harass people," ANI reported.

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport saw 31 flight cancellations on Tuesday, including 14 arrivals and 17 departures.

IndiGo cancelled 58 flights at Hyderabad airport on Tuesday, including 14 arrivals and 44 departures, PTI reported.

IndiGo flight delays and cancellations continue to affect passengers at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport for the eighth day in a row, ANI reported.

Aviation Ministry's issued directives to officers at the level of Deputy Secretary, Director and Joint Secretary to physically visit key airports on 9 December and to review and assess the overall situation.

This special inspection drive will be conducted at Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Guwahati, Goa and Thiruvananthapuram airports.

Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinarapu in a post on X on Monday stated, “All senior officials of the Ministry have been instructed to visit airports to verify airline operations and passenger-oriented services. Any shortcomings identified, including feedback received through interactions with passengers are to be addressed and rectified immediately.”

In the wake of IndiGo's operational chaos, the government is planning to hand over about 200 daily IndiGo flights to other operators. It is likely that Air India's request to increase daily flights by 60-70 will be approved by DGCA.

The operational meltdown of the country's largest airlines prompted the need for an inquiry from the government. While aviation watchdog DGCA promised necessary action against IndiGo for the chaos, Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu said that the Centre will reduce IndiGo's winter flight schedule.

IndiGo's operational disruptions continue for eighth straight day as Bengaluru airport witnessed over 120 flight cancellations. “We will curtail IndiGo's routes. They are currently operating 2,200 flights. We will definitely curtail them,” Ram Mohan Naidu said.

Rahul Bhatia, who co-founded IndiGo and leads InterGlobe Enterprises as the principal owner of the airline, has a net worth around $ 8.1 to 10.9 billion as of late 2025, driven primarily by his stake in IndiGo through InterGlobe Aviation, according to Forbes. He is listed at $ 10.9 billion dollars jointly with his father Kapil Bhatia in India’s Richest rankings. Amid stock fluctuations, Forbes’ real-time ranking place him around $ 8.1–8.5 billion dollars.

Son of Kapil Bhatia, an entrepreneur who ran a travel agency ‘Delhi Express’, Rahul Bhatia co-founded IndiGo and leads InterGlobe Enterprises as the principal owner of the airline.

IndiGo on Monday said that it has already processed refunds amounting to ₹827 crores for flight cancellations up to 15 December. Meanwhile, the remaining refunds that are pending are in progress.

In the wake of IndiGo's massive flight cancellations, the InterGlobe Aviation's shares have been on a losing streak since 28 November when they closed at about ₹5,901 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Shares of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo rose 0.74% on Tuesday at 9:15 AM to settle at ₹4,960 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

A total of 121 flights were cancelled at Bengaluru airport, including 58 arrivals and 63 departures.

IndiGo announced a significant operational rebound on Monday as it claimed that network has been fully restored. It said that over 4,500 delayed bags have been reunited with their owners, with the remaining baggage expected to be delivered within the next 36 hours.

IndiGo's on-time performance improved to 90% after 68% drop in November from 84% in October, with over 1,200 cancellations in November, ANI reported.

A high-level review meeting was held to conduct a comprehensive assess IndiGo's operations, according to a statement from Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinarapu's Office. All senior officials of the Ministry were instructed to visit airports to verify airline operations and passenger-orientated services, ANI reported.

Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Samir Kumar Sinha said, “Things are almost back to normal. IndiGo has flown more than 1,800 flights today, which is almost normal. All the other airlines, like Akasa, Air India Express, Air India, and SpiceJet, have flown their full capacity.”

“Airfare has been capped at ₹18,000. It starts from ₹7500 for up to 500 kilometres, and beyond 1500 kilometres, it is ₹18000,” ANI quoted Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation Samir Kumar Sinha as saying.

A detailed inquiry is going to take place in the next 15 days or so, and once the outcome of the inquiry is there with us, then we will go into the reasons for that. We would not like to have this kind of occurrence ever in future. We are waiting for the outcome of the inquiry. In the meantime, the senior management of IndiGo has also been shown cause. We will wait for the inquiry report and thereafter take corrective actions,” ANI reported.

IndiGo on Monday suggested that its on-time performance (OTP) improved as it registered 90% OTP across the network.

Delhi airport: 143 flights cancelled — 83 departures and 60 arrivals

Bengaluru airport: 127 flights cancelled — 65 arrivals and 62 departures

Hyderabad airport: 77 flights cancelled — 38 arrivals and 39 departures

Ahmedabad airport: 18 flights cancelled — 9 arrivals and 9 departures

Jaipur, Chennai, Mumbai, Guwahati and Jaipur airports also reported significant disruptions, ANI reported
