
IndiGo Flights Cancellation News Highlights: Disruptions continued into the fourth day on Friday, with early morning flights 6E 2343, 6E 2471, and 6E 6692 from Delhi to Pune, among others, being cancelled at Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram airports. IndiGo cancelled 1000 flights on Friday amid delays reported at numerous airports.
Over 550 IndiGo flights were cancelled on Thursday as disruptions at major airports intensified, following strict government regulations on crew safety that hit the country’s largest airline’s roster planning. The budget carrier has now assured aviation watchdog DGCA of full restoration of stable operations by 10 February, and also said that cancellations would continue for next 2-3 days as part of schedule stabilisation efforts.
On Thursday, Indigo – which holds over 60% of India’s domestic market – cancelled at least 95 flights at the Delhi airport, 85 at the Mumbai airport, 70 at Hyderabad and 50 at Bangalore airport sources had told news agencies in morning. On Wednesday, the airline had already cancelled at least 150 flights across key cities.
The disruption marks a significant setback for the two-decade-old airline, known for its punctuality and the tagline “IndiGo Standard Time,” reflecting its practice of closing plane gates well before departure. On Wednesday, the airline stated it was making “calibrated adjustments” to its schedules over the next two days.
What did IndiGo say?
The airline, which operates about 2,300 domestic and international flights daily, on Wednesday said a "multitude of unforeseen operational challenges" have severely disrupted its network operations over the past two days and apologised to passengers for the inconvenience, a report by PTI noted.
An airline spokesperson explained in a statement that the challenges include “minor technology glitches, schedule changes linked to the winter season, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion in the aviation system and the implementation of updated crew rostering rules (Flight Duty Time Limitations) had a negative compounding impact on our operations in a way that was not feasible to be anticipated”.
The following flight cancellations have been reported for today: At Delhi, 37 departures and 49 arrivals have been cancelled. At Hyderabad, 43 departures and 23 arrivals are affected.
As per ANI, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, "...I said yesterday as well that we will have positive news within 24 hours. The positive news is here. Situation has improved a little today itself. Operations will be normal in 2-3 days."
The Government of India has announced a high-level inquiry into the recent airline disruptions, as per ANI. The investigation will look into the causes of the operational issues at Indigo, identify accountability where necessary, and suggest measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, aiming to spare passengers from such inconveniences.
Ahmedabad Airport also experienced disruptions, with authorities reporting the cancellation of seven arrivals and 12 departures between 12 am and 6 am on December 6, according to ANI.These disruptions at several airports highlight the ongoing operational challenges the airline has been facing in recent weeks.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has established a 24x7 Control Room (011-24610843, 011-24693963, 096503-91859) that monitors the situation in real time to ensure swift corrective action, effective coordination, and immediate resolution of issues as they arise, as per ANI.
Airfares reached unprecedented on Friday, with a one-way one-stop economy-class SpiceJet Kolkata-Mumbai flight ticket for December 6 costing up to ₹90,000, and a similar ticket of Air India for Mumbai-Bhubaneswar going up to ₹84,485, as per the airlines' websites, PTI reported.
Prices reportedly soared on other high-traffic routes as well.
On 6th December 2025, Thiruvananthapuram Airport has a total of 11 domestic arrivals and 11 domestic departures scheduled for IndiGo, of which 3 arrivals and 3 departures have been cancelled so far, according to ANI. For international flights, IndiGo has 2 arrivals and 2 departures scheduled, with no cancellations reported.
“A delayed flight is frustrating, but remember the faces trying to fix it. Please be nice and humble to the IndiGo staff; they are carrying the weight of cancellations too. Let’s support them,” Sonu Sood said on X.
Actor-choreographer Lauren Gottlieb, seen outside an airport, spoke to the press and commented on the ongoing flight chaos, according to ANI.
"Everything that you have seen online and over the news - it looks like an apocalypse inside. All the flights to Dubai were cancelled. There were hundreds of people in there, and it looked like some kind of disaster had happened," she remarked, also advising travellers to steer clear of IndiGo flights for the time being.
Actor Jay Bhanushali, another passenger impacted by the delays, shared his frustration through Instagram Stories.
After spending several hours waiting to board his flight to Mumbai, Jay made a mild jibe at the airline, writing, "After so many hours of travel, I deserve to be welcomed with this song 'Desh Mere'. Thank you Indigo for the unplanned extended trip."
Singer Rahul Vaidya faced similar issues and described his experience through multiple Instagram posts.
Aviation Expert Harsh Vardhan blamed IndiGo management for disruptions to its operations, leading to severe delays and congestion at major airports across the country, according to ANI. He stated that the management should have taken proactive steps, as the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) policy was finalised a year ago.
Harsh Vardhan said, "It's a very unprecedented situation in the aviation industry. Passengers have been suffering since last three days. This is peak tourist, wedding and business season. IndiGo's explanation is that because the government enforced a new flight and duty time limitation policy so this has suddenly caused problems. This is a management failure. Management should have taken proactive steps because the government policy didn't come about in 24 hours. It was deliberate for years. Then a year ago, the policy was finalised."
In view of the surge in passenger demand after widespread flight cancellations, the Indian Railways has deployed 116 additional coaches in 37 premium trains operating more than 114 enhanced trips across the country, according to ANI.
After the airline cancelled 1,000 flights on Friday, Delhi Airport issued an advisory stating that IndiGo’s flight operations are now “steadily resuming and getting back to normalcy". It also advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving home.
The Northern Railway on Friday announced that it will increase 3AC and Chair Car coaches in four premium trains for the convenience of travellers in view of the disruption of Indigo airline's flight services.
SpiceJet Chairman & Managing Director Ajay Singh said on Friday that the airline will be running 100 additional flights over the next few days, with an aim to extend help amid the ongoing IndiGo disruptions.
"What happened is extremely unfortunate, and it has caused a huge amount of inconvenience to passengers...I am sure the government is working really hard to make sure the problem is resolved at the earliest...I am sure IndiGo is doing its best... We (SpiceJet) are attempting to help by running 100 additional flights over the next few days. It is important to find out what happened and why. We welcome the government's decision to constitute a committee..." he said.
Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, the Civil Aviation Minister has assured that the situation involving indigo flight delays and cancellations is getting better and expected to return to normal by tomorrow.
Today, we are seeing that the situation is getting better. The backlogs that have been there for the last two days have been cleared. From tomorrow, we are expecting normalcy to start in the sense that there won't be any congestion, or there won't be any waiting at the airports. Whatever operations IndiGo can start immediately, they will start it," he told ANI.
Passengers at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport were seen standing in long queues at IndiGo kiosks on Friday as they attempted to check their flight status amid widespread disruptions that has led to chaos and concerns across several airports in India, Reuters reported.
In a video statement, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said, “I do understand that these disruptions have caused much discomfort to our customers and has shaken their belief in IndiGo’s reliability carefully build over past 19 years. My colleagues, all the great IndiGo teams and frontline staff have been working relentlessly to address this situation. Rest assured, we are doing everything in our control to not only restore your trust and belief, but strengthen it further over time. Thank you for your patience, understanding and kindness during this difficult time. We shall keep you updated on an ongoing basis.”
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers apologises for inconvenience caused to passengers amid cancellations, says flight situation expected to normalise between December 10 and 15.
IndiGo cancelled over 1,000 flights or more than half of number of daily flights on Friday. We expect flight cancellations to be below 1,000 tomorrow, said Elbers.
Speaking about the IndiGo crisis, SpiceJet chairman and managing director Ajay Singh said that what happened is extremely unfortunate.
"We are attempting to help by running 100 additional flights over the next few days. It is important to find out what happened and why. We welcome the government's decision to constitute a committee," Singh told ANI.
The DGCA has constituted a four member committee to conduct a comprehensive review of the situation, as well as assess the circumstances that led to "such massive disruptions" in several airports across the country.
IndiGo's massive flight cancellations across India have led to a massive surge in airfares across several key domestic routes.
Data from travel portal MakeMyTrip shows the cheapest Delhi-Bengaluru flight on December 6 costing around ₹40,00 with some options exceeding ₹80,000.
Two commercial airports in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed chaos on Friday after 13 IndiGo flights from Srinagar and 11 from Jammu were cancelled.
The disruption prompted protests from hundreds of stranded passengers, fueled by the airline's alleged failure to respond to distress calls.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India's aviation watchdog on Friday said that it was withdrawing the new "weekly rest" policy for pilots immediately, HT reported.
This comes after hundreds of flight cancellations and delays impacted the country's biggest airline, IndiGo.
SpiceJet shares jumped almost 3% to ₹31.24 on the BSE on Friday, gaining from the massive flight disruptions at rival IndiGo, which commands 60% of India's aviation market.
IndiGo has reiterated that it does not expect to fully restore operations until February 10, 2026.
It has also not mentioned when it expects an end to the daily mass cancellations and delays in air travel, Reuters reported.
Shares of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., which operates IndiGo, slipped as much as 3.2% on Friday in Mumbai to reach its lowest level in nearly six months, Bloomberg reported.
“In view of the ongoing operational disruptions and representations received from various airlines regarding the need to ensure continuity and stability of operations...the instruction contained in the referenced paragraph that no leave shall be substituted for weekly rest is hereby withdrawn with immediate effect…” ANI quoted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday as saying.
Singapore's High Commissioner to India Simon Wong stated on X, “I joined the tens of thousands of passengers stranded by #Indigo. My flight to #Deoghar has been cancelled. My sincere apologies to my young staff waiting for me to attend his #shaadi. Lost for words.”
Speaking about the IndiGo flight disruptions, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said in the Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour that he had raised a point of order regarding the seriousness of the situation, noting that millions of passengers across India had been affected by the cancellation of more than 500 IndiGo flights, according to ANI. He pointed out that the issue directly concerns the House, especially on a Friday when many members travel to their constituencies over the weekend to fulfil their responsibilities.
Tiwari highlighted that flights were being indefinitely delayed and later cancelled, causing significant difficulty for travellers. He described the matter as one of propriety for the House and said he was satisfied that the Chairman acknowledged the concern and instructed the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs to ensure that the Civil Aviation Minister comes prepared to brief the House. He added that the issue extends beyond Members of Parliament and affects travellers across the country, arguing that the disruptions reflect the government’s “monopoly policy” of concentrating control in the hands of a few.
“Passengers are facing a lot of trouble. The government should try to improve the situation at the earliest... Government should interfere to provide relief to passengers,” Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav said, according to ANI
Airline's on-time performance at six metro airports dropped to 8.5 per cent on Thursday, PTI reported citing Civil Aviation Ministry website.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday slammed the government after IndiGo cancelled an unprecedented number of flights at multiple airports, stating that there is little purpose in having a Civil Aviation Ministry if it fails to address passengers’ concerns., according to ANI.
"I have submitted a calling attention. I was hoping that the civil aviation minister would give information in the Parliament yesterday itself, but unfortunately, that did not happen yesterday. He held a meeting late in the night and issued some directives, but what is the point of directives if so many flights are still being cancelled? If you are not responsible for rising airfares and passenger grievances, then shut down the Civil Aviation Ministry," she stated
Airline's all flights from Delhi have been cancelled until midnight today.
All IndiGo departure flights have been cancelled from Delhi airport till 3 pm, airport authorities informed HT.
“IndiGo loots people. They charge money for seats, food, and everything. They raise their fares during festivals. They have earned a lot, and now it is their fault that these delays and cancellations are happening. But they will make up their losses with the hard-earned money of common people,” TMC leader Kirti Azad said.
Mumbai Airport mentioned planned cancellations for IndiGo flights on 5 December 2025, between 0001 IST and 2359 IST. A total of 53 departures and 51 arrivals were cancelled, bringing the day’s overall cancellations to 104, according to ANI.
IndiGo cancelled 400 flights today, including its 225 arrivals and departures cancelled at Delhi airport, PTI reported citing sources, This comes after airline cancelled 550 flights on Thursday.
The Airport Director of Pune stated that between 0000 hrs and 0800 hrs on 5 December 2025, a total of 16 IndiGo arrival flights and 16 departures were cancelled. He added that one NAG–PNQ flight had to be diverted to Hyderabad due to Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL). According to him, operations of all other airlines remained unaffected and were accommodated without disruptions, according to ANI.
He further explained that parking bay congestion persisted as several IndiGo aircraft continued to occupy bays while waiting for operating crew availability, which limited bay availability and caused sequential delays to subsequent arrivals and departures across multiple carriers. The director noted that Pune Airport is coordinating closely with airlines, ground handling agencies, Air Traffic Control, CISF, and terminal service partners to manage congestion, facilitate passengers, and restore normal flight operations as soon as possible.
Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi said on X that the ongoing IndiGo disruptions are a result of the government’s monopoly model. He added that ordinary Indians are bearing the brunt through delays, cancellations, and helplessness, and emphasised that India needs fair competition in every sector rather than monopolistic practices.
Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru mentioned that 52 arrivals and 50 departures of IndiGo flights have been cancelled so far today, ANI reported.
At IGI airport in Delhi, 135 Indigo departures and 90 Indigo arrivals have been cancelled today, according to ANI.
“We were not informed that they are cancelling the flight...We have been awake since 5 am, and we have been waiting here for 2 hours. There is no information and we are standing in the queue for hours and now they are saying that they will not even provide the stay. Tomorrow they are providing us with the flight, we have a wedding to attend. So, it's a total mess...We are really disappointed with IndiGo,” says a passenger.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has submitted a notice under Rule 180 in the Rajya Sabha to raise the issue of IndiGo Airlines’ operational disruptions, which have caused significant inconvenience to passengers nationwide.
