IndiGo Flight Status Highlights: A special four-member committee of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is scheduled to meet IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers on Friday, December 12, to question him about the large number of flight cancellations over the past week.
The committee was formed to investigate the disruptions caused by IndiGo, which have led to significant chaos at multiple airports.
Earlier, DGCA issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers after widespread cancellations. The airline, responding to the Show Cause notice, requested additional time to respond, stating that it is "realistically not possible to pinpoint the exact cause(s)" at this time, given the “complexity and vast scale of operations.”
Earlier, on 10 December, IndiGo submitted its revised flight schedule to DGCA after the government slashed its winter schedule by 10%.
IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta posted a video message on X on Wednesday and said that the airline's board will examine every aspect of the recent flight disruptions at the carrier. Apologising for the disruptions, he further noted the involvement of external technical experts to assist the management and help determine the root causes of the disruption.
Vikram Singh Mehta blamed combination of events for the disruptions as he said, "They happened because of a combination of internal and unanticipated external events", including minor technical glitches, scheduled changes linked to the start of the winter season, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion in the aviation system, and implementation of updated Crew Rostering rules.

IndiGo on Thursday said it is set to operate more than 1,950 flights out of its approximately 2,200 daily flights on the day, connecting around 3 lakh customers to their destinations.
Amid flight cancellations, DGCA officials began monitoring IndiGo's operations, refunds, and other processes from the airline's headquarters on Thursday, PTI reported, citing people aware of the development.
At Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, 18 flights were cancelled till morning, including nine arrivals and nine departures, PTI reported.
IndiGo cancelled 220 flights on Wednesday across three major airports, including Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, with the national capital experiencing the highest number of cancellations at 137, PTI reported.
IndiGo has cancelled 60 flights from Bengaluru Airport, despite the airline's plans to operate over 1,950 flights on Thursday, PTI reported.
IndiGo said that the travel voucher is in addition to the compensation of ₹5000- ₹10000, depending on the block time of the flight, for those customers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure time.
The travel vouchers can be used for any future IndiGo journey within the next 12 months.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu urged passengers impacted by IndiGo's massive flight cancellations to “seek assistance by tagging @MoCA_GoI on X, contacting the Ministry’s Control Room at 011-24604283 / 011-24632987 or by registering their grievance on the AirSewa App/Web Portal.”
Ministry of Civil Aviation in a post on X stated, “The Ministry of Civil Aviation held its daily review meeting with IndiGo on the prevailing situation. The primary focus was on Passenger issues. Refunds, baggage delivery, cancellations and passenger support were thoroughly reviewed.”
It added, “Clear directions issued to fast-track all passenger-related issues. Coordination among all stakeholders has been strengthened across airports to ensure quicker resolution of grievances. Passenger convenience remains the topmost priority.”
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, has been summoned by aviation watchdog Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to submit a comprehensive report. He will appear before the regulator at 3 pm on Thursday. DGCA sought a detailed data update on the recent operational disruptions.

Suggesting that the airline will learn from this experience, IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta in a video message said IndiGo board has decided to involve external technical experts to work with the management, help determine root cause.
DGCA summoned IndiGo Chief Executive Pieter Elbers to appear at its office on 11 December. It instructed the airlines to submit a complete report latest by 3:00 PM today, along with comprehensive data and updates, relating to the recent operational disruptions, according to a statement.

Step 1: To check flight status, use IndiGo’s website or app under “Manage Booking” with PNR to confirm if the flight is cancelled or delayed.
Step 2: The user will be presented with an option if the flight gets cancelled – The passenger can either claim a full refund or rebook on the next available flight at no extra cost.
Step 3: For a request, provide relevant details on IndiGo’s refund page — PNR, email, passenger info — and click on submit.
IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta shared a video message on X on Wednesday and said, “IndiGo has followed the pilot fatigue (FDTL) rules as they came into effect. We operated under the new rules throughout… both in July and November. We did not attempt to bypass them, nor did we do anything that negatively impacted our unblemished track record of safety.”
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday questioned the central government over the IndiGo's massive flight cancellations and reprimanded it for not taking timely action to check the crisis and allowing it to precipitate.
A bench presided by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said, "The question is why, at all, this crisis arose and what have you been doing?" It directed the government and the airline to take steps to adequately compensate the affected passengers, PTI reported.
It sought a complete report by January 22, the next date of hearing, over disruption in flight operations over the past week.
IndiGo in a post on X said, “The CEO and his team have been leading from the front, working through day and night to normalize flight operations and secure network stability.”
