IndiGo to connect six new destinations in Africa, Central Asia - All you need to know

PremiumIndiGo airlines is set to connect New Delhi and Mumbai with six new destinations in Africa and Central Asia this year. India's largest aviation company will be adding 174 new weekly international flights between June and September 2023. With this, the budget carrier will be connecting a total of 32 international destinations by the end of the year - up from its current 26.
"Delhi will get connected in August to Tbilisi, Georgia & Baku, Azerbaijan and in September to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Almaty, Kazakhstan," IndiGo said in a release on Friday. Its ‘massive’ international expansion plans also include connecting Mumbai with Nairobi in Kenya and Jakarta in Indonesia. These direct flights are likely to become operational in late July or early August.
IndiGo has also announced plans to resume daily services between Delhi and Hong Kong from August. This route had been suspended three years ago amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With this expansion in our network, we will now be directly touching 32 international destinations (up from 26), next to our 78 domestic destinations," reports quoted IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers as saying.
The company has also been strengthening its connectivity to Europe through the codeshare connections with Turkish Airlines. Currently, it offers connectivity to 33 destinations in Europe via Istanbul. The latest communique indicated that IndiGo was also looking to secure the final regulatory approvals to offer codeshare flights to North America.
The developments come amid rising demand for international travel - from, to and via India. Even as the government makes efforts to develop the country as an international aviation hub, travel has surged well past pre-pandemic levels.
