NEW DELHI: Industry body Nasscom on Monday appointed Infosys' chief operating officer UB Pravin Rao as chairman for 2020-21, succeeding WNS Global Services Group CEO Keshav Murugesh. It appointed Rekha Menon, chairman and senior MD of Accenture in India as the vice-chairperson.

Both the appointments were announced at Nasscom's executive council meeting, conducted via video conference amid the 21-day lockdown announced by the Centre to contain the spread of covid-19.

The new leadership, along with President Debjani Ghosh, will help the industry work towards achieving its vision for 2025, boosting resilience, skilling the workforce, and accelerate the industry’s contribution towards the country’s economic growth.

Speaking on the occasion, Rao said, "These are challenging times for the Indian IT industry, as we deal with an unprecedented situation. However, the Indian IT industry has time and again proven its resilience, and I have no doubt that this time too, we will emerge stronger and wiser. As we all adjust to a new normal, I hope to continue the great work that Nasscom has been doing in transforming the industry and making it relevant in this digital era. I believe that our industry, more than ever, needs a focused approach towards building resilience, upskilling is workforce and contributing to our country’s growth, and I’m excited to be a part of this journey with Nasscom."

“I look forward to working with Nasscom and its leadership to ensure that our industry remains innovative and agile, as it unlocks opportunities, navigates challenges, and catalyses sustainable, positive impact in our communities in the future," added Menon.
