New Delhi: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Wednesday granted regular bail to former board members of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) accused in the INX Media case.
The former bureaucrats include Sindhushree Khullar, Pradeep Kumar Bagga, Prabodh Saxena, Ajeet Kumar, Rabindra Prasad and Anup K Pujari. Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram and his son Karti are already on bail in the case.
Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar granted them bail on a surety of ₹2 lakh each. The court said the accused would not leave the country without its permission. It also directed them not to tamper with the evidence or hamper the probe.
The chargesheet in the case, filed by CBI, also named these INX Media directors Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, besides Karti’s chartered accountant S. Bhaskar Raman.
The agency on 18 October named 14 people in the charge sheet, including Chidambaram and his son. It also includes four companies and seven public servants.
CBI had registered a first information report (FIR) on 15 May 2017 for alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds of ₹305 crore in 2007, when Chidambaram was the finance minister in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA)-1 government.
While the CBI had registered an FIR in the INX Media case in May 2017 alleging irregularities in the FIPB clearance, the Enforcement Directorate lodged a money laundering case in 2018.
