The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting raids over 40 locations in Karnataka and Maharashtra in an ISIS terror conspiracy case, ANI reported.
Of the total 44 locations being raided by the NIA since this morning, the agency sleuths have searched 1 place in Karnataka, 2 in Pune, 31 in Thane Rural, 9 in Thane city and 1 in Bhayandar.
The NIA arrested 13 individuals in Pune, Maharashtra, as part of the ISIS terror conspiracy investigation. These arrests followed the NIA's searches at 44 sites across Maharashtra and Karnataka. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Maharashtra and Karnataka police.
The investigation relates to a plot by the accused and their associates, who were influenced by the violent extremist ideology of terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS, ANI reported. They had formed a group with the intent of recruiting youth and promoting violent jihad to establish Islamic rule in India.
The White House earlier stated that US military forces were prepared to respond to any threats to the United States that may emerge from Afghanistan. It said the US State Armed Forces were working by, with and through local partners to defeat ISIS forces in Iraq and Syria.
"As part of a comprehensive strategy to defeat ISIS, the United States Armed Forces are working by, with, and through local partners to conduct operations against ISIS forces in Iraq and Syria and al-Qa'ida in Syria to limit the potential for resurgence of these groups and to mitigate threats to the United States homeland," the statement added.
