One of the holiest celebrations in Odisha, Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra, is set to commence on June 20 this year. The grand festival is organised by the Hindu calendar. The celebration takes place every year on the second day of the bright fortnight in the month of Ashadha.
The day is of immense importance for the devotees of lord Jagannatha. On this day, Lord Jagannatha, which also means ‘Lord of the Universe’, is taken out of the temple on beautiful chariots. The three idols are taken to the Gundicha Temple by the Grand Road. The idols stay there for some time and then return to the main temple.

Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2023: Date and Time
This year, the auspicious Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra will take place on June 20. The Jagannath Yatra will commence on June 20 at 10:04 pm and will end on June 21 at 7:09 pm. The preparations for the festival begin months before the festival.
The grand Rath Yatra begins after the three deities are established on the decorated chariots. Lord Jagannath's chariot is called Nandighosha, Lord Balabhadra's chariot is called Taladhwaja, and Goddess Subhadra's chariot is called Darpadalan. These chariots are pulled by a large number of devotees.
Bahuda Yatra
After reaching Gundicha Temple, the three deities begin their journey to return to Lord Jagannath Temple, known as Bahuda Yatra, at the end of the ten-day celebration. The date for the return yatra is June 28, 2023. The return rath yatra commences on the tenth day of the Ashadha month.

-You can reach Puri via road. The city is connected to all major cities of the country via road. NH 203 and NH 215 are major national highways connecting the city to the rest of the country.
-An ample number of trains run from Puri to the rest of the cities in India. More than twenty trains operate between Puri and Delhi.
-To go by air, you need to fly to Bhubaneswar, Odisha's capital. The city is 56 km away from Puri. You can travel to Puri from Bhubaneshwar via train, taxi, or bus.
