Kabali producer KP Chowdary, also known as Sunkara Krishna Prasad Chowdary, a renowned name in the South Indian film industry, was found dead in Goa. Authorities confirmed that the producer committed suicide, according to a report by 123 Telugu.
Chowdary was distressed regarding his arrest in a drug case by the Cyberabad Police in 2023, the report said. He settled in Goa and started a club, which did not perform as he had expected.
Chowdary distributed the Rajinikanth starrer film Kabali in Telugu and other Telugu films such as Gabbar Singh, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, and Arjun Suravaram.
He was also known to have connections with several industry celebrities. His mother, a resident of Palvancha, was informed regarding his death.
In 2023, Chowdary was arrested in a drug case worth ₹78.5 lakh, according to a report by India Today published on June 14, 2023. The police seized 90 grams of cocaine and his mobile phone. The suspected Chowdary after discovering messages and photographs from Google Cloud, where he was partying. The police linked 11 others in connection to this case.
“He returned to Hyderabad in April 2023. While returning, he procured 100 sachets of cocaine from a Nigerian national in Goa, Petit Ebuzer, who was absconding in an NDPS case. He used 10 sachets and kept the rest to sell to his friends,” the police told India Today.
According to an Indian Express report, Chowdary lived alone in a flat for six to seven months. His friends became concerned after he failed to respond to phone calls and messages. Following this they contacted the flat owner, who found Chowdary hanging and called the police.
“Based on a tip-off, police from Madhapur apprehended him on Kismathpur Road under the limits of Rajendranagar Police Station while he was trying to sell cocaine. They seized 90 sachets of drugs, ₹2,05,000 cash, four mobile phones, and a four-wheeler from his possession,” police said.
