Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced that the ‘five guarantees’ promised by Congress during its election campaign will be implemented in the present financial year. Siddaramaiah emphasised that the promises will be fulfilled by the government without any discrimination of caste or religion.
Siddaramaiah also gave details of the dates from which specific welfare schemes will come into force.

The 'Gruha Jyoti' guarantee, which guarantees 200 units of free electricity will be implemented from 1 July this year. “200 units of electricity will be given for free…Consumers who haven't paid their bills till July will have to pay," the Chief Minister said.
'Uchita Prayana' guarantee for women, which allows them free travel in public transport buses other than AC, luxury buses in Karnataka will come into force from 1 June.
Under 'Anna Bhagya', 10 kg food grains will be given free to all in BPL households, Antyodaya card holders. This was one of the major five guarantees and will come into force from 1 July.
The 'Gruha Lakshmi' guarantee under which the Congress promised to provide ₹2,000 monthly aid for the woman head of a family will be implemented from 15 August, the Chief Minister said.
The government will soon launch applications for the ‘Yuva Nidhi’ guarantee under which the government will provide ₹3,000 for unemployed graduates and ₹1,500 for unemployed diploma holders for two years, or until they get a job (whichever is earlier).
“Today we have taken a historic decision for Karnataka. We are going to implement 5 guarantees, and we have given the deadline. We have signed in front of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, and are going to implement it soon," Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaih said while announcing the details of the implementation of five guarantees.
In the recently concluded elections, Congress came into power in Karnataka with a thumping majority of 135 seats in a 224-member house, while the ruling BJP was restricted to just 66 seats. After some inner-party tussle, Siddaramaiah took oath as the Chief Minister of State while DK Shivakumar was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister.
