Congress party on Saturday formed the team of cabinet ministers who took oath along with CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar in Karnataka. The eight cabinet ministers of the Karnataka government took oath at Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday. The names include--MLAs G Parameshwara, MB Patil, MP KH Muniyappa, KJ George, Satish Jarkiholi, Ramalinga Reddy, and BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan.
The provision of cabinet berths to MB Patil and Parameshwara came amid reports stating that MB Patil, a Lingayat leader, and G Parameshwara, a Dalit leader, were upset over the denial of deputy chief minister posts.
Yesterday, MLA G Parameshwara said that it is time to forget the "individual aspirations" as the "party is supreme" for him. Parameshwara had also thrown his hat in the ring for the race for CM's post.
Parameshwara recorded his sixth victory in the Assembly polls in Karnataka on 13 May. Parameshwara won the poll contest from the Koratagere constituency by a comfortable margin of 14,347 votes.
Parameshwara served as the Karnataka Congress chief for eight years.
On the other hand, Lingayat Leader Patil is among the eight leaders who became part of Karnatak's cabinet. Patil yesterday said that the Congress will give equal opportunity to all castes in the cabinet formation. He was allotted Home Ministry in December 2018 in H D Kumaraswamy’s cabinet.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's son Priyank Kharge has also been appointed as the cabinet minister in the Karnataka government. Kharge won from the Chittapur constituency in Karnataka by a margin of 13,638 votes, recording his third consecutive victory from the seat.
Former Union Minister KH Muniyappa who was a member of Lok Sabha for nearly three decades has also sworn in as Karnatak's cabinet minister. Muniyappa won from Devanahalli assembly constituency by a margin of 4,631 votes in the recently held elections.
K J George (Minority-Christian) also took oath on Saturday alongside seven other cabinet ministers in Bengaluru's Kanteerava stadium. Kelachandra Joseph George, popularly known as KJ George is originally from Kottayam, Kerala. KJ George defeated Padmanabha Reddy of the BJP by 55,768 votes. George got 1,18,783 (61.04%) votes against Reddy, who managed to garner 63,015 (32.38%) votes.
Satish Jarkiholi, an influential political leader from North Karnataka also took oath as cabinet minister today. Jarkiholi defeated BJP's Basavaraj Hundri by 57,211 votes from Yemkanmardi seat.
Reddy has served as Karnataka's home minister previously. He served as a minister in the Veerappa Moily government in 1992, the N Dharam Singh government in 2004, and the Siddaramiah government between 2013 and 2018. Reddy retained his BTM Layout seat in the Karnataka Assembly election.
Congress leader BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan is one of the eight MLAs who took oath as ministers in the Siddaramaiah cabinet. He is said to be close aid of Siddaramaiah. Khan has won from Chamarajpret seat for the fourth consecutive time. He defeated BJP candidate Bhaskar Rao by a margin of 53,953 votes.
